If you go this route, think about doing it with 2 flex parts. One in the stock spot and one where you are thinking in the Catback part. If you do just one in the catback part, the engine movement will be amplified by the additional length and it will make it flex over a larger distance and may break faster or it will just bang the car. By doing 2, the exhaust will flex into an "S" shape, which is what it really wants to do anyway...

Just a thought...

Hope the head swap works for you...

OK so guess the Season went out with a bang lol. Engine just quite. Everyone is under the impression that the chain jumped a tooth or the guides failed. We will find out.

At Palmer It just died on turn one. Never had this happen to me ever so i wasn't too sure. I guess i will be data logging for future. About to start to build spare engine sooner then i though. I think Ill will just get a LSD and new clutch while I'm at it. someone took a guess and think the chain guide/chain tensioner/chain it self or the chain jumped a tooth. I was able to take out all the spark plugs, but C4 spark plug was jammed in there. I tried to remove it by force and broke it. So i think C4 is gone Bent valves maybe leaned out. when everything turned off. I haven't plugged the computer to the car yet, but at this moment it a lost cause.

8 track days I'm not mad specially the fact that it was the last day and i was ready to retire the car for the winter. I was testing something out.

I did all does track days on the same coolant/brake fluid/transmission Fluid and Oil (had to add a little very track day). when i take out the Oil i will be sending it to Blackstone and see what they say.

If there was anything that i could have heard would have been hard for me because i changed the header and the car sounded totally different. Hell it could of been the back pressure from the cat muffling the car.

Best session the recorded.

Ooooo, that sucks...
The car sounded good up to that point and it seems like you had a good instructor. Who was the event organizer? The helmet sticker that the instructor has is from BMWCCA.

I'm not hopeful on this one, but there have been problems with aftermarket spark coils on these cars. But not being able to pull C4 sparkplug doesn't bode well for the health of the engine.

As for the oil change, most people change oil before each event. What were you running for oil?

My oil gets cooked...the oil temp will read 270+ on my car, but I can't figure out what causes it.

I use Rotella T6 5W40. Yah i think after what every failed it killed C4. Valve/pistons/rings/lean, but when i take it apart I'm sure C4 will be gone. I was getting smoke from the Intake so the intake valve was open. I already have everything laid out for the build. The only thing I'm doing a search on is the bearings. I will be keeping the stock Pistons and rods. Everything is forged so no sense in replacing unless it damaged (the working motor i pulled from the car i was parting out). and the only machine work i will need is decking the head and short block and while i'm at it i will be getting a bath for both.

Makes sense about the rebuild. As for decking the head and short block, are you going to need to make any corrections to the valve timing when you put everything back together or are you able to get a slightly thicker head gasket or won't that even be needed?

I remember reading this thread back a the beginning of the summer. Awesome man. Happy to see you're having fun. I'm a little confused though - Are you keeping both cars for the track?

I just picked up a racecapture pro MK2, still setting up I'm gonna add oil pressure/temp analog sensors. With R53 we need canbus monitoring as the odb port can only do about 1 update per second. MK2 has 50hz gps and most apps will take 50hz canbus if it's there with the gps data.

Same for the R56...How do you get to the canbus? Harry's lap timer will do 5 or 10hz depending on the GPS antenna but the ODBII is stuck at 1 hz.

harries does 50hz gps & odbII with the mk2, I tapped into the twisted pair on the far left of the dash, there is an access panel there

So Harry's supports this or do you need to do something extra to get Harrys to read it? Sorry for the questions, I just glanced at the RaceCapture web page and it doesn't indicate iPhone as being supported. Or is that just them just talking about their own app?

I got a chuckle from one of their pictures of a "dash" setup - they are showing 270deg oil temp...that's the range I am unfortunately in.

yeah supports mk2 for gps & odb2 but not for accell/gyro for some reason and my phone gyro sucks

there is a new one coming out that will do it too, from same company, it's almost half priced, wifi only, canbus & 50hz gps but it will not let you do analog inputs, I'm going to get one of those for my autocross car

That flywheel doesn't look too good either.
It looks like the face of the clutch is bolted in...Can it be replaced?
Previous owners slipped it a lot? Any chance they were into drag racing the car?
