Hi guys, I have had mi '03 S with 85k on it for about six months now and want to start upgrading some performance stuff. I want to be able to monitor the car so I know if something is not working right. What is out there that I can do this with? I would like a stand alone unit but if not then an app and tablet might be the way to go, I am not sure.
I use an elm 327 Bluetooth adapter and the torque pro app. The elm 327 kinda sucks, it loses connection with the phone all the time. The torque app is great but mini doesn't have many pids so you can only really monitor fuel, engine codes, engine temp, intake temp, intake pressure, boost and vacuum, rpms and a few others
I was going to buy a smaller tablet and leave it in the car and use the torque app but was worried about connectivity problems. I had an aeroforce in my bonneville ssei anf it was ok I just wanted something els with gauges or bar graphs. How does the dashcommand hook up?

The main things I was worried to keep an eye on are boost, oil psi, and the battery voltage. You can't get oil psi through the obd port, and the readers that get boost have a lag. I've installed s boost gauge. Haven't installed my oil pressure or volt gauge yet. Been busy, and still gotta get that adapter so I don't have to drill into anything for oil pressure.

I'd recommend ECS's new scan tool, made specifically for BMW's and MINIs (and Bentley). I doubt it's very friendly for real-time monitoring if you want to be able to look at it as a gauge, but at $200 it's hard to beat. You can record sensor data and have it graphed I believe. It can tap into pretty much any module on the car, clear codes, program modules etc. Just take a look at it on the ECS page and check out the Q&A section as well.
And Rolls Royce Not a real time driving ( moving )item as you have to be parked and not running but ignition on to communicate , but once on its on, real time.
My next question is how long does the obd2 port have power supplied to it after the keys are removed? Just don't want to run the battery down in the middle of winter.

never really got a straight answer on this, I think as long as you start your car everyday you should be fine though.
