Graf Water Pump

I'm about to do some maintenance on my '04 S including changing the water pump. I'm deciding which brand to go with. There are no names on eBay for around $30 which I think I will avoid. My local independent auto parts store, which is very good can get me one made by Graf for about $80 and they say Graf is a quality brand. I trust them but was wondering if anyone here has had experience with a Graf pump and would recommend one. It sounds like a good part to me but I would like to confirm if possible.

TIA

I only use the original OEM pumps with the MINI 2yr warranty. I've tried to use the aftermarket pumps like this due to the much higher profit margin but only got burned and had to do the job twice and for free the second time. So now if the pump fails with the OEM the MINI dealer has to do it for free.

This is the r53 forum but isn't there a recall for your r56 water pump?

+1 on recall I received a paper about it from MINI

Even though we sold it...might try to dig up owners info

Also to OP
you stated this was a 2004 and you needed help
Pelican gave you the advice and article on changing the pump.
Now it's an R56?
We can't help if we don't know what kind of car it is
They have entirely different systems in place.

That was a different poster asking about the R56. Did you not notice the different names?

Hello! We are currently uploading DIY's for the R56 right now so some tech articles are still in progress, such as the water pump. Here is a DIY on NAM that may be able to help you out. Pump here if needed. Here is some info about the recall. Good luck!

Its here for the Gen 2 R56+ MINIs , but I think you found it already

Also the recall people mention is on the small aux water pump in front of the transmission, not the main water pump. Some people get that confused. But we listed that and all info in the thread.

Thanks

For the R53 / R52 Cooper S / JCW :

You can use the Graf , but dont get the half pump version ( impeller and backing only ) , make sure if you do go aftermarket you get the whole pump. Like the 4 version listed in the link. Some currently on sale.

I did go with the Graf pump. Once I had it in my hands I knew it was a quality part and not a bargain basement replacement.

This is an old post and I sold the car a long time ago but I was happy with the quality of the pump and it worked fine for as long as I had the car.

How many years you had the pump?

I’ve had a Graf in since Aug 2021. About 30k miles on it. I’ve used Graf in the past as well. I trust them.

I've used Graf pumps for over 40 years. Quality supplier, I've never had an issue with one of their pumps.

I am planning to do an R53 Supercharger oil change since I am already there, might as well do the whole thing.

I don't currently have an issue with the water pump or any leaks on the area.

From what the vendors are saying these are all OEs:

Graf
Gates
Saleri
