Cvaxle boot replacement

K so on my 05 mini s I have discovered I have a bad boot on my cv axle. I was reading about a boot replacement kit. Anyone ever used one or know if it is reliable?

CV boots are here , you will have to pull the axle and then separate and replace and re-grease the boots. Its a bit of a job but do-able.

Here are the boots, the ones we carry are great and OEM to the manufacturer.

Note they are for the inner and out and for the manual and automatic transmission.

If you replace the boot soon (days or a few weeks) the joint inside should be ok and last a long time. Depends on how dusty the area you drive is. If you wait, dirt gets in there and destroys the joint. Once it starts making noise, it is ruined. Then you are in for replacing it - and quality axles are hundreds of dollars - not a good place to look for cost savings!

If you don't hear any clicking you are fine, but I wouldn't drive on it for too long. Check and see how much grease is there. Once the grease is all gone that is when the joint begins to click and you're no longer able to get away with only doing a reboot kit. If you have noise you can do a new OEM axle (don't go aftermarket) or find a place that does OEM rebuilds.

Going to most likely order the axle with boot already pre-fit from you guys... these come greased I'm assuming correct? Its slowly starting to get some noise so Id rather be safe than sorry... sucks this happened right after I just spent and got my intake, exhaust and coilovers just fitted lol

You can split the order, order the axle asap , then put in a second order for the other stuff. I will try to speed on my end the other stuff also.

If you have them on order all already , call in and talk to our sales and they should be able to split up the order for you.

Thanks

Already have them on order... and I'm not worried about when those come, just couldn't pass up that price on the JCW shift ****

I do worry though about ordering the axle... I am going to go ahead and place an order now... If theres anything you guys could do about getting it shipped out asap, I don't mind paying more for shipping (2-day, next day, whichever) or at least getting it shipped out this week.

Also, what is the difference between the 2 axle replacements and OEM one (besides brand)?

Yep, you are welcome.

If the axle, just select the the quickest shipping from the shipping box on checkout, there is usps , fedex, etc and they expedited shipping options. We will do our best to get it out asap. If in stock here ships out same day. We ship fast once its here. PM me the order # and I can send it over to sales.

No worries, I see it can be shipped out tomorrow which will work out just fine... Now down to my last question, besides brand, is there any difference really between the axles you guys offer?

Just the brands and cost. Those are manual transmission , passenger side.

Also on that side the big difference is the OEM MINI one has the bearing with the bracket to the engine. On the aftermarket you get the full bearing but not the bracket, you have to fit the bearing on the shaft into the OEM bracket off the old one.

Genuine MINI with bracket / bearing.

VS aftermarket

The axles you get from the chain parts stores will work and have a lifetime guarantee, but they are so cheaply made that you will be changing them almost yearly. If you want an axle that will last 100k miles, get an OEM one.

So my axle came in a couple days ago along with my exhaust. Tried to do both but didn't manage due to timing. Exhaust put in, axle did not.

How long would you say it takes to replace this axle? Generally Im ok with working on cars - I am no pro, but me and my buddy got my coil overs done in about 7 hours (give or take with not all the proper tools) not ever knowing how to do those.

I have an appointment at my local mechanic to get it done, but its also gonna cost me $180 for labor... Hoping I can eliminate that by doing it myself but I have no problem dropping some dough if its gonna be a PITA for me to do it vs doing it right, especially since I leave for the track Saturday

Single axle should be about 2 to 3 hours (Right vs Left) if you have the tools handy and replacement nut.

Motor on!
