Difference between 2005 ga6f21wa and 6 spd automatic in 2007 mini cooper s

What are the differences between these tranny's. The trans in my car is toast and I have only located the one for a 2007 cooper S. ????? I have a hard time wanting a 100k used trans for 3 grand.

Is your current transmission a CVT automatic? Your in that grey area I think where you could have a CVT or a 6spd auto.. And to be honest if your looking at a transmission that has 100k on it I wouldn't buy it at all.. At a 100k that transmission is probably at the end of its life as well.

You need more info.....
Is it from a gen1 cabrio?! Or a gen2 hardtop?!
Both were in production in 2007......

my transmission is a 6 spd aisin warner GA6F21WA R53 coupe with the wheel mounted shifters. the 2007 is a coupe also with the paddle shifters but gen 2. My torque converter and pump drum assembly is unusable so I need something for parts or a fresh trans. I won't buy a used high mile trans but I'm in need of some major hard parts to make mine rebuildable.

All of the Aisin autos I have worked on are 2007 on up! What has failed in your transmission? Was it shifting hard? Skipping gears? Slamming?

Imo don't try to use a gen2 tranny in a gen1 car...
While they are very similar...a few things may be be different...
In would assume the tq converter likely has a different lockup point to take into account the tq difference between the 2 motors.....maybe a ratio change...or sensor inputs/outputs...you would be the ginnypig.....

Some slippage in lower gears and a hard shift now and then. All of a sudden a huge oil leak which turned out being the pump bushing seizing to the torque converter shaft ultimately shredding the trans seal. Guess it may have been low on oil. Bought knowing trans was on the edge

Anyway zip i feel more like a ginnypig with a used 70k trans. Guess i'm looking for options. I'd go with the getrag 6 spd if there wasn't so much (electronic) reworking to be done. I have that set up available locally.

I agree with ZippyNH. idk if the transmissions are interchangeable between generations. I would be surprised if they were. Even if they are im sure there would be differences that would make it a pain. Im sure there would be reprograming involved not to mention what else might pop up! Your best bet is to get a reman trans. If it is at all possible... adainc what has failed in your transmission? good luck!

Okay.. your on the more severe type of failure. pump bushing seized to torque converter. That's not a common thing or its something I haven't come across yet.. Most of the things I have ran into is valve body issues.. The bushing seizing would most likely be from ATF break down or low fluid or a combination of both..

If I recall, the (almost the same) tranny is also used on Audi/vw...has a similar valve body issue (recalled on the Audi/vw), and Toyota cars....so the parts should be plentiful....

I recall the same. that vw and audis use the same type.or like you said almost the same. Ive replaced valve bodies on a few vw also with the aisin auto trans. VW and audi have also backed away from the term lifetime fuild and no service needed type theme. They are now on a service change time frame. Everyone that I had come across the fluid was like a black slug. Even at a lower mileage the fluid wasn't much better. One would think there are parts available and plentiful I guess one would have to dig a bit to find out what is interchangeable.
