R50/53 Will non-mini OBDII scanners work on a mini?
Will non-mini OBDII scanners work on a mini?
Maybe this is a stupid question....but I have an OBD2 code scanner for a Dodge Truck....and I was thinking about plugging it into the OBD2 port on my R53 to see if it would work. It will also read sensors, intake temps, speed, rpm, stuff like that.
I didn't know if it would work since they are both OBD2 systems....or is the MINI OBD2 port set up differently than other vehicles?
I thought I would ask before I plugged it into my MINI and screwed something up.

I use a Kiwi PLX that interfaces the OBD port to WiFi to my iPod or iPad. Works great and allows me to add just about any gauge I want, including engine temperature. Allows me to clear the code as well

A generic OBDII reader will work for check engine light, some codes will lead you nowhere tho (Mini related codes that you'll have look up). For anything else, you need either a software with a laptop or a scanner.
Will any of those Bluetooth iPhone apps also do data logging ?
That ELM327 Bluetooth deal off of ebay looks great, but I have an iphone. Are there any Bluetooth OBD connectors for MINI's that work with iphones?
Thanks for all the info guys!

Downside with the iPhone, The phone looks for data via the wi-fi network first..
slows it down. Go look on the apple website, they have a Pretty neat set up.
