Bad door lock actuator??

The passenger side door lock on my 03' mini has stopped working. When I toggle the lock/unlock switch on the dash console I can sear something clicking in the passenger door, but the lock post never moves....but I can manuall push it down to lock the door.

I think what I'm hearing clicking is a relay possibly? Is the actuator just bad?

Sounds like the actuator is trying to move if you hear the clicking in the door. If you can get the door panel off and look at the actuator. Make sure the harness connection is good. Most likely the lock actuator is on its way out. Most of what i have seen they get stuck with loss of the up ( unlock position) but can lock.

Here is the door diagram for the Gen 1 MINI R50 R52 R53.

#1 in the diagram

Door Lock Unit - Left ( Driver Side )

&

Door Lock Unit - Right ( Passenger Side )

Good luck with the inspection.

Thanks

Lots of people have. Do a search, you'll find tons of info on replacing door lock actuators. It's kind of cramped in the door, but easy overall.

Thanks for all the info guys! I'll pull the door apart this weekend and try to find out what's going on with it.

I have an issue where the passenger door will not unlock with the key fob or button inside of car. It can only be unlocked by the pull of the door handle from inside. Everything works fine locking with the key but not unlocking. I hear and feel the actuator when it locks and attempts to unlock. You can feel it making noise like it's trying to unlock but nothing happens. How can this be fixed or does the actuator need to be replaced? Thanks.

Yeah, it's the actuator. Mine did the same about 3 yrs ago. First the passenger side, since just my wife ride with me I left it alone and opened the door for her on the inside handle. Then my driver for did it a year later. So I replaced both actuators. Problem went away. Took me about 1.5 hrs. The passenger for is simple. Driver door is a little tricky bc of the key lock, but is still rather simple. Go ahead and replace both and get it done. It's just a matter of time before the driver quits and locking the door by key gets annoying

I had to laugh at this, cause I know what you mean. That would be a pain.

I think my son doesn't believe me when I say things like "When I was a kid we had to get up, walk over and turn a **** on the TV to change the channel."

These days I'm known to do things like look out the window at my car, holding the key fob against my chin, pushing the button as I watch the lights blink, because sometimes I can't remember if I locked the car.
