Cool movie. How awesome are the Minis in that movie?! It makes me totally want one. Maybe in a few years I'll have to find an old one to fix up, man are they cool. They throw a lot of cars off of cliffs in that movie, I noticed that the Minis held up much better than the others, especially the Ferrari (I think) that gets tossed of in the beginning of the movie.

It's a Miura P400, and it is a fake car that goes over the cliff at the begining. Look closely and you will see there is no engine / mechanical stuff underneath. The other cars and the MINI's do get destroyed.

I met one of the original actors a while back. I forgot his name but he is one of the three guys who drove the Mini getaway cars. He now owns a Jaguar restoration shop in Long Beach, CA.

I love watching the Minis slip around and get sideways in that indoor pedestrianway, whatever that is. I also like the shot of the Minis ducking into the new car lot....what fun! Oh, and of course, the building jump. btw, I've always wondered...judging from the way that scene was cut...if that was a real stunt or shot in two halves. If I recall, one never actually sees a Mini do the entire jump.

It is a fun movie to see. There is no comparison between them since they are radically different. I really liked seeing the Mini's when I was studying in Italy for a summer in 1995. I was amazed to see those little cars, all detailed, suped up, bigger rims (a 14" or so was huge). I grew up in small town and never saw much of that kind of labor of love with cars. They just roared around the piaza's. It kind inspired me to test drive MINI. I really had no intention of buying one.

Yes, that was an actual jump. Unfortunately, the shot was somewhat less than well designed. In the special edition DVD, one of the remarks iby the producer (I think) stated that the shot should have been filmed from a higher perspective looking down onto the buildings in order to better convey the height of the jump.

FWIW,

Theo
