It is been a while since I have been here so I thought I would stop by and say hi. I ended up getting a new ford focus over the summer. It has the new duratec2.3 liter motor in it. I have been working with http://www.marcymotorsport.com on it. Right now I am making ~ 140hp and & same torque at the wheels with intake and tuned cam gears. I got into track events and did my first run at the streets of willow with the crew from http://www.focushallenge.com in february. I still love mini's, once i am done with college that will definitely be a vehicle to consider.

Aloha and welcome back to NAM. You haven't posted since May 1, 2003!
Might have been minicooperonline.com when you were here last.
Some things have changed but other things remain the same.
Soon we will be seeing a turbo kit for the MC from M7. That's new.
Then at the same time we are still waiting on GIAC ECU upgrade- that's old.

Remember? You posted on my espresso thread!

Hey, I painted my dash wood finish recently.

That looks pretty good. I am glad that turbo kits will be available for these cars. They make so much more sense than a supercharger, it is just such a small motor. I really think they should up it to a 2 liter aluminum block motor, i think these cars would respond really well.

I think the turbo kit will be popular with those who own an MC and want up to about usable 150-160 HP.
Given the lighter weight of the MC that amount of power is reasonable. The MCS's power comes at the cost of weight but I think there are plans for a turbo MCS as well.

We have also seen Nitrous kits for the MC and MCS from M7 from about $900.

Maybe we will get a larger motor someday. Talk to MINI. Right now we have only the 1.6 liters to work with.
That helps on the gas efficiency side but there is only so much power to be safely squeased out of that design.
Even a 1.8 liter engine would be something.

Cosworth was behind the new focus motor and is coming out with a kit this summer for it. Expect foci with duratec's to be putting out close to 300hp naturally aspirated. These motors are crazy, they are also starting to catch on also with the kit car folk. I have seen a few lotus 7's with them. Have a good one folks, time for sleep.

PS working on a functional wing. it will be on at least one car in the speed world challenge. I am going a different route that has been done before, I am looking at the newer low Rn airfoils that the performance R/C folk are using.

If you are into design, what about designing a better functional aero wing for the MINI or make a better MINI aero body kit for the MINI? Integrate some brake ducts for the front with lowered ground effects and wider wheel arches so we can fit some nice 255/35 tires on 18" rims.

If you folks are interested in a functional wing that would not be a problem. I would need a local mini owner to work with though. It would use the same airfoil that I plan on using on the focus. Smoke tunnel testing should start in 2 weeks. I have narrowed it down to 3 or 4 airfoild. I will most likely be using a highly cambered selig airfoil. I would love to make up the brackets, and it wouldn't be difficult at all. As far as body kits go I would love to do a race kit for it. Nice ducting and integral air dam / splitter in the front bumper. I could also set up a diffuser in the rear. The only thing that would be hard would be finding a local owner to work with. also, is there a market for products like that? would you guys run a nice carbon fiber wing?
