rear fog lite

I found the plug in the back for the rear lite, does that mean that the car is wired all the way to the switch and will it lite up when I turn on ?

No. The wiring is there, but the BCM still needs to be programmed to let it know the rear fog is there (in addition to adding a switch bank with the correct toggle.)

depends on a few things - the rear for wasn't even available in the US cars in the beginning. Buyers kept begging for it an eventually it was made available.

do you have a switch already?

what year and model?

there's been a lot of threads about this, did you try the search?

Yes. No additional wiring is needed.

I've done the rear fog retrofit on mine. Instructions are here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t_Retrofit.pdf

Some info ...
Looking into adding the fog I discovered a couple of things.
Understand the coding is needed (my son has the cable and program ... so easy)
I have 3 or 4 switch banks (usually used to add a dummy )
So I opened up the switches and IC board.
Where I found that all the connections were on the IC board .
The only thing missing was the LED for the illuminated switch.
So I removed one of the panel illumination LEDs (there are 6) and added it to the board where the LED needed to be for the rear fog.
I dabbed a drop of red paint on it .

all buttoned up / long story short .
the rear fog works and has an orange-ish glow to it .

After alot of research, I ordered the correct parts to get the rear fog light installed in my '06 MCS. The '02-'04 models don't need a separate rear fog light installed, as the top lights in the factory tail light housings are what light up. However, I had to order the rear fog to go where the reverse light used to be. Now all I have to do is go to the dealership to get the function programmed into the ECU.

Here are the two part numbers needed:

Rear fog switch bank, ALL switches, DSC: 61 31 6 917 993 (61316917993)
Rear fog light housing, red: 63 24 7 166 015 (63247166015)

Here are some pictures of the parts ordered:

You can order the parts from DDM tuning:

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/BMW-61316917993SWITCH-UNIT-CENTER-CONSOLE613010 (DDM part 613010)

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/BMW-63247166015REAR-FOG-LIGHT631410 (DDM part 631410)

A couple of notes. First, DDM tuning has the switch bank OEM part number wrong. The 5th digit is wrong; 61 31 9 917 993 (61319917993) is NOT correct. Second, the rear fog light housing part number I stated earlier is correct. However, the actual part I received has a different 4th digit; it shows 63 21 7 166 015 (63217166015).

P.S. - I stated the part numbers two different ways to make each a searchable term in the forum.

Or, hound ebay for months and snag one for $25 like I did. Depends on your level of patience. Truthfully, I was right at the point that I was about to order one new.

We can get you one, but you have to call and order with your options so we get the right one for you as there is like 3 different choices.
