How to deactivate self-locking doors?

I was intrigued to see the "you can de-activate self-locking doors" piece of the Things You Didn't Know. But I didn't see in there "how" you do that. (I bought mine used and it did not come with a user manual, so if it's in there, please forgive me. I also tried to Search it 100 ways to Sunday, but couldn't find the process already described, so if it's out there, again, please forgive me.)

Can someone give me the quick How To?

Thank you!

On a gen1 car, take the car to tge dealer, pay for about. 5 or 1 hr labour (varries), and have the dealer change the options....various things like daytime running lights were options that you can have programmed....

Yup, the dealer can do it. They'll usually throw in one programming for free.

considering this is in the GEN1 thread, i will assume you have a gen 1. You can go to the dealer and they can program it to self lock once you get rolling, and then when you shut off the engine it will auto unlock, or just disable it all together.

OR you can do a little research on NAM, and google, and find the software, read hours of instructions, purchase the cable, curse like sailor, read some more instructions, fiddle with more software, and curse a whole lot more... and maybe get it to work... (i only say this from experience.)

Either way... It can be done.

Lol....
problem with the ncs expert thing is you f' it up...you might need to flatbed the car to the dealer...so unless somebody has a level/comfort in coding/programming and following direction that few here do, the dealer is the way to go.

I never like NCS Expert since it was possible to F' it up pretty easy. I used the BMW SSS Software, which is much easier. HOWEVER since you need to run it on a VM it can be a pain in the A$$ to get it to read the car, and you need to put a battery charger on it to maintain a good voltage so it doesn't die during programing.

It is a shame one has to take the car to a dealer to get it programmed for very simple things like lock status, etc. It is an owner accessible setup on most cars from my experience, simply scroll through the menu and set to the desired setting, usually one of two choices.

Remember, gen1 cars are from 2002-2006 hardtop, a.d 2005-2008 cabrio...
So the computer was pretty advanced for 2002...but things have advanced pretty fast...but also remenet, gen1 cars a unique cause they are a blend of rover and bmw engineering and desgin...
the result imo was a happy accident! Gen2 cars while more advanced, lost a lot of the rawness, the pure connected with the road in a ralley car on the way to work feel...to make yhe car appear to a broader group, the mini morfed...more technology, and in many ways less about driving....

They added that facility to later MINIs.

Sorry to bring back an old post, but had to vent. I bought an OEM non-button key from Mini and whenever I drive with it, the doors lock and unlock when I start and go which drives me nuts (the 10 MPH trigger). Went to the dealer to day to have the feature turned off, and they were unable to connect to my ecu to make the changes since I have an A/M radio (was installed when I bought the car). Really sucks, as the constant locking and unlocking in traffic is annoying. Just wanted to add this in case anyone else comes across this issue. Thanks.
