Rev "float" on my 02 Mini!?!
I am new to Mini's and I am having my first issue. I have a 02 base Mini and when I push the clutch in and let off the accelerator the rev's seem to float for a second before going down. I have no idea what is causing this...Help
my S does that as well. I'm pretty sure it's just down to the built in lag in the drive-by-wire throttle system. I'm not sure, but a Sprint Booster should fix that (I don't own one so I can't say for sure)
I've experienced the same thing with mine - kind of annoying since I,ve never experienced this with any other manual car or bike before (not my clutching/throttle/shifting timing or technique, LOL) . I thought it might have something to do with factory TB response with the throttle by wire system so I ordered a Sprint Booster and installed it. No difference!
It's perfectly normal. It is actually in the factory tune in the ECU, kinda like the burble in the exhaust note when you let off the throttle. A good tuner knows where to go to pull most of it out if you dont want it, but with the TQ management software in the computer it wont let you pull it all out without codes/SES/EML/and limp mode. It's actually better just to leave it, especialy in hard driving. (Your RPM's drop less durring a shift kinda like a lightend flywheel affect.)
I appreciate the help. I have never had a vehicle with this built into it. I guess I just need to get used to the vehicle. Like I said I am new to the MC and I need all of the help I can in my quest, so thanks again.

How is that like a lightweight flywheel? Lightweight flywheels make the revs drop FASTER between shifts and allow the car to rev quicker or in other words are more responsive to throttle inputs.
I have the same thing too, and like EODguy im new to MC too so i guess im just not used to it. It does get annoying, especially since I find I have to wait a second before shifting into the next gear so my car doesn't lurch forward when I let off the clutch. Does anyone know if a new ecu (such as a GIAC) would fix this?
