R50/53 buying a new MINI S
i'm planning to buy a new MINI S. i went to the dealer and the car with the configurations that i want costs $25,200. i was trying to do a bargain with the guy and he said that the price is non-negociatable. is this even true? please help me out here. i just want a good deal. also please give me some tips when dealing with the dealer and how to get the best deal.

Was that the MSRP? If so, MINI dealers are not selling below MSRP. If it was with adjusted market value, look elsewhere. There are lots of dealers selling at MSRP. MINI of Hawaii sells at MSRP and is willing to ship to the mainland.
yes it is MSRP. does that mean it cant go any lower? many ppl i kno who bought cars are other dealers (toyota, honda...), who bargained and got about $2000 off. i was wondering if i can do the same at MINI. thanks for the reply.
Just bought a MCS 25,195 all three packages and HK stereo, sounds like what your getting. List price does seem to be the best most people are doing and that seems fine with me. A friend of mine who works for a bank doing car loans for dealers told me the real issue is cost of ownership not purchase price. He told me that cars that are not discounted like the MINI have a higher resale value because of this.
He told me the reason my dodge dropped like a stone was the rebate and discounting dodge always does is figured in. Sad for my dodge but great for our MINIs.

isykal-- You will find many threads on NAM on this topic
of MINIs selling at or above MSRP. The car is still in
high demand. Resale is also very high, so many that
try to buy a used one, end up buying new anyway. The
bottom line is: the car is worth it! Good luck in your
quest!
God speed.

Isykal,
If the local dealer is selling cars at MSRP and not charging any premiums (like most CA dealers), and you don't have to wait for 6-9 months to receive it, buy it!
If not, check around. I'd call JulieSaxa at Classic MINI in Mentor, OH 440 266-6700. As of yesterday they were offering $500 off MSRP for cars that are in stock. Your profile doesn't say where you live, but if Mentor is within 1,000 miles, fly up and drive it home. Plus they sell you accessories at 20% off. Check out their latest post in Vendor Accouncements.
I've bought 3 MINIS from Julie and Classic and couldn't be happier with them...and I'm in CA.

10% seams a lot high as far as car loans go. you may want to shop around abit first
check with your local credit union. you should be able to get a rate alot lower than
what your bank is offering good luck

10% is high, but we don't know your credit situation. Could be a good deal for you.
Shop around. Check out http://www.lendingtree.com
And check with your mini dealer. They will try to beat whatever you bring in because they get kickbacks from the bank.
Good luck!

If you're willing to shop around you shouldn't have any trouble getting $500 off MSRP, maybe more. They told you the price wasn't negotiable because it's their job to maximize their profit. Everything's negotiable. Unless you're in a big hurry for the car it should be your job to minimize their profit. Watch out for overpriced and unwanted add-on junk that dealers like. If you get a reduction from MSRP make sure that's what it is and not a reduction from some inflated dealer sticker. Even if the dealer gave you $1000 off MSRP on the S you mentioned they'd still be making a couple of grand.
The party is about over for added dealer markup and discounts from MSRP will soon be normal. Hang tuff and enjoy getting the best deal possible.
Also, 10% is way too high for financing, half that or less should be possible.
I have 3.99 from my bank....some have done even better.

I got my Mini two months ago. The dealer didnt give me a discount. Even charged me for the car mats.......
I did get a cheap car loan though. My bank offered me 3.75. The dealer gave 3.64. Having an offer they have to beat is a very good idea. Even if you just make it up. I have good credit and I bought from Tate mini of alexandria.

>>i'm planning to get a loan from my bank which has a 10% interest. is it good to loan from my bank to pay for a MINI?
With today's low interest rates, a 10% consumer loan is an absolute and blatant ripoff. I highly recommend obtain your financing from:
http://www.capitaloneautofinance.com (Formerly known as peoplefirst.com)
The absolute best lowest rates in the nation.
Now, I suspect you either have no credit history, have little credit or have bad credit to receive a 10% interest rate offer. I suggest before doing anything regarding your MINI purchase to obtain an online copy of your credit report to determine whether you have late payments, charge off accounts, repossessions, bad debts, too much debt, too many or too little credit cards and so on ad so forth.
Also your credit score (FICO Beacon score) determines in which "tier" you fall into when a bank either approves or rejects your credit application and consequently extends an offer for a loan. A FICO credit score below 600 is considered to be bad credit and a very high risk customer....most banks will either deny credit or extend credit at very high interest rates...BEWARE! Anyone with a FICO score at or above 700 points is a "low credit risk" meaning that creditors and banks will extend credit to you and give you the lowest rates possible.
To obtain an online copy of your credit report (Depending on your state of residency it can cost $8.00 on an average) go to the following MAIN 3 credit bureaus:
http://www.equifax.com
http://www.transunion.com
http://www.experian.com
Again, check your credit report to make sure it is in tip top shape before applying for credit and if there are any derogatory or negative information, make absolutely sure it is acurate as it can hurt your chances to get a loan at the lowest interest rate or perhaps you won't even get credit at all.
Good luck!

If one is shipping from out of state, then $500 about covers it, or so I've read from dealerships willing to do this. Many are selling available MINI's at MSRP, or in some cases w/ a $500 discount. Trying to find a local MINI dealer who'll discount their stock is just about impossible, for several reasons. In fact, mark-ups are more often the case. The MINI is more desirable, holds it's value better, and is far less common on the road than most domestic cars or the dime-a-dozen Asian makes. My guess is that if one was even looking for a VW bug, they could find a discounted price fairly easily. Not so w/ the MINI. This may change over the next year, but w/ current waits of up to 10 months before taking delivery of an S, it's obvious that there's not much lot inventory at many/most dealerships.
