ha that cars worth 3 grand tops

if you are mechanicly inclined enough to install an engine offer him 3-4

the interior is ugly and so is the checkered flag stuff IMHO

What's a new engine, like $8k? I'm no expert, but I don't think it's worth near that if it does in fact need a new engine.

If it's got a loud knock it could be a rod knock. 10k is too much. If your willing to put another engine in at anywhere from 4k to 8k then offer way less.
You need to pay no more than 2or 3 k.

Yeah, I got my 2005 MCS with 85,000 miles for $10,500 this past April and it had been impeccably maintained. No way that car is worth ten grand.

Its a rare car, combining the Checkmate with the JCW tuning kit, but for that price I would walk. The "Shocker" sticker and the Honda in the background tells me what caused the engine to fail.

Like most have said....overpriced.
even if you find a good lowmile used motor, $5000, then spend $1000 to install it...that makes it a $16,000 car...still overpriced, considering how much downtime+work it will take.

If you replace the JCW engine with an S engine then the car is actually worth less than if you had started with an S engine in the first place. Ask them how much they would sell you the car if THEY did the repair and brought it back to spec?

The motor is the same...
the diff n a gen1 is all the bolt on parts....the head, SC, injectors (on a jcw 210((2005+)), computer...
But on a standard engine change, swapping those items are standard unless you get a longblock...that includes the head. You will usually reuse all the extras...the wiring, injectors, etc...including the sc....want to buy that pay more $$.

True. My assumption was that the replacement would be the entire engine, instead of rebuilding the components. Which way is best to go. No idea. Depends on what is discovered tearing it apart. But your point is valid.

The rolling chassis alone is not worth 10K! This is why I would RUN away from this abused, and unfortunate MINI. I am looking at aproxamately 7K on a performance orentated rebuild on my own car! NO its not going to be at all stock, but I'm a diehard MINI guy, I'm not sure if the OP wants to go down that route. Yes you can find JCW long blocks for @5K, or if the head is good get a standard S short block for less, but is it worth it to the average person?
I can tell you now that given one little sticker on the front bumper means that the kid that owned that car beat the hell out of it as much as I have mine. Its not just a motor rebuild coming for either of us.

OP, take your hard earned money and find a better MINI.

If it didn't have a sunroof, I'd consider buying it and doing a hardcore fully built engine build with it, but (I think) it does. For 10k, that's clearly way, way too much.
