R50/53 Advertisements?
In my area in New Jersey I haven't seen any advertising for the MINI except for one small add in the New York Times. The only other advertisement I've seen has been a billboard on the way to Philadelphia. Is there other areas of the country where there has been much advertisements?
Here in CT I have seen 3 billboards and saw one billboard near Boston (SUV backlash and David vs Goliath).
The local dealer has had ads in the paper - in the auto section 'This is big, really big, No its small'.
In NYC - Times Square there was a huge billboard back in June.

MINIUSA's marketing ad agency is Crispin, Porter and Bogusky and they are located right here in Miami:

MINI is perhaps their biggest account. All these neat little things (Book of Motoring, Unauthorized Owner's Manual, 10 MINI Ideosyncrasies, etc, etc) were conceived by them.
MINI's marketing campaign has mostly been handled by means of street Billboards, Car Magazine/Newspaper adds (Remember the one with the barf bag attached to it?) and short clips in movie theaters before the movie starts.
There are no Radio or TV marketing campaigns for the MINI in the US.
In other countries, such as Canada, The European Union, there are very neat TV commercials. Check some of these at MINI's international website: http://www.mini.com.
The MINI sells by itself and dealership "Motoring advisors" are mere order takers.

In the Downtown Toronto area there are two actual MINIs stuck on the sides of buildings. Very high traffic areas and VERY COOL!!
Each building is painted black with white tire tracks. One ad is about cornering (featuring a black Mini with a white roof) and the other ad (which I can't recall the message) is a red MINI, hood stripes, and Union Jack roof.
Only in Canada, eh?

Yeah I saw that billboard when I was in Toronto at the end of July. Not many MINIs to be seen in the streets. I went by MINI Downtown in Toronto and they had a nice selection of cars there. Only saw one MINI driven in the 401 Freeway and a Chili Red white roof one in Niagara by the Lake.

The first thing you learn in Advertising school is, "You advertise only because you need the buisness."
Mini obviously does not need to advertise, therefor I believe the few ads we encounter, are out there for pure motor-ist enjoyment(i.e. the use of billboards as oppose to commercials)!

I live outside of Orlando, and I've only seen one advertisement...its actually off of the interstate heading away from O-Town. Big billboard about the SUV backlash if I remember correctly.
There are/have been I think 3 billboard locations around Las Vegas. Having an Indi Blue/White Cooper outside one of the downtown casinos with a "Win me for 50c" sign on it could count as an ad I guess. This was the Union Plaza which doesn't usually have prizes on display outside, and doesn't have the slots visible from the street.
