Canadians - Modified Car insurance?
Canadians, I need your help!
I'm going to purchase my first MCS this week and I need proof of insurance before getting my sticker. I just called my insurance company and it appears TD Meloch Monnex "Will not insure a car that has been modified to increase the speed or horsepower" (Stock only). They claim that the main brokers will be similar...
WTF?
So who are you using, and have you discovered this before?
What the hell do I do now?

Nope just basic coverage.
Strange. Hopefully someone from Ontario can help. In BC we only have one choice for basic coverage and I've never heard of this stipulation. I would suggest calling some other insurers.
Jamez,
From what you're saying, if you go on a diet and lose 20 pounds, you better not let your auto insurance company find out.
It sounds like they'll drop you for making your car go faster.
Do they give you a discount if you always drive around with a couple sacks of kitty litter or water softener salt in the boot?

Thanks, I'll call them tomorrow!
Fellow canuck here.
The insurance company won't insure you on a car that is heavily modified that they know about. If you modify it and tell them otherwise, clearly they won't be there when you need them to be. Good news, heavily is a pretty subjective word I've found. My insurance company covers everything on my car, including my aftermarket exhaust, intake, carbon fiber bits, etc., and none is JCW. I dont have a pulley which is indisputably a performance mod. The rest I guess I can get away with. PM me and I'll give you my brokers info (Im in Montreal). Hope that helps.

Yes, I am now quite an expert on the Ontario insurance.
The (new?) Ontario guidelines are quite clear. As little as a cold air intake is enough for them to get cheezed off.
Be careful everyone when you have to renew your policies; they may not look so kindly on your ride.
Anyone can feel free to PM me if they need more info.
(BTW, I've decided to buy a stock MCS)
