While not particularly interested in the new 2004 Galant, I kept getting these emails from Mitsubishi to go an pick up a test drive kit. Since it had a free cd and $25 gift card, I said why not.

(To get your own, click here: http://www.mitsubishicars.com/MMSA/GalantOffer)

Being a new MINI owner, I wasn't interested in a new car, but would have liked to test drive the EVO VII for grins and giggles (which apparently DOES NOT get test driven).

On trying to leave the dealership, I was "attacked" by sales people who were MUCH more interested in my CR/W MCS than in trying to sell me one of their own. Very amusing to see sales people decked out in Mitsubishi name tags and polos crawling all over my little joy ride.

I just saw the Specs on the Evo 2004 and it's even faster

I dont' understand why they would not let you test drive one? The MCS Demo car was romped on all the time at the dealer. One of the best selling points of the car in my opinon. Once you drive one you want one. They would sell more if they had a demo car.

Flagship car, they never let you drive the best thing on the lot...which really confuses the blazes outta me. If you can't drive it, how can you buy it? You can't test drive an Acura NSX either...or any other flagship vehicle. I guess it's a marketing/psychological scam. Dealers think if it's so elusive that you can't test drive it, then it will make you think you must have one and will therefore rush out and buy one.

I was lucky enough on my MCS test drive to be given the car un-chaperoned for an hour. I can assure you that I took it for a good romp!

^ Not me... My single, short, MINI test drive was the most negative (and about the only negative) aspect of my buying experience. A pushy, over-bearing, sales guy who made feel like I was partaking of some HUGE privilege to get to drive his precious MCS. He wouldn't let my wife or kids come along (claimed it was dealership policy...and that nearly made my wife nix the whole purchase!). The drive only lasted about 10 minutes. Fortunately I'd already decided to buy the car, and knew that I wouldn't buy it from that dealer but rather would travel 3 states away to buy it from a place that sounded nicer on the phone (and had cars available with only a 2 month wait vs. the 9 months I was quoted locally).

BTW, in the end, I did buy it from the NY dealer (very happy) and take it to the local MA dealer for service (very happy).

yah, these mitsu-sales people are helping ordinary people buy
these wannabie cars with kia warranty...they don't get to drive
cool cars like us so a Mini may look like a ferrari to them.

I think dealers are limiting their sales if they dont let people
demo their cars. but then again, some customers are just too
obnoxious and arrogant that they think they can do anything they
want at a dealership so who knows. their own demographics may limit
their ability to let people demo some cars.

I took my MA's MCS for a 30 minute ride, talk about trust  On the highway I was sorta interested, bumpy roads,
wasn't so sure, then I found a twisty road- sold!
