I owned an 86 Vette for 10 years that had auto/digital climate control that had a mind of its own.Well on a 200 mile trip today the auto climate control(?) in my 04 mcs(2850k) started to blow cold air thru the AC vents and later heat thru the floor vents. The only problem is the system was not on, it was off all day. Does anyone else have this problem or is the ghost of climate control from my Vette haunting me? :???:

hmm that's strange that you say that. i was enjoying a nice day in the 50's yesterday here in Mass with my sunroof open (yes in December!). I turned off the Auto climate control, yet i noticed that warm air was blowing through the little vents on the upper dashboard. thought that was pretty unusual. maybe that's normal? it wasn't the main vents, just the little holes.

i have found that you need to set the climate control to recirculate when you want it completely off. This is because the climate control is going to allow air to be sucked in at speed even when it is off because the vents are open.

There is another alternative to shutting off all of the air coming in by activating the rec. button when the system is off. You can change the temp. gauge to reflect the temp. that you want and that temp. air will come in from whatever vents that your system used last. This allows me to have the system off but still have some air come in thru the vents at the tempature that I want.

Hope that helps and makes sense.

I noticed that sometimes its cold air and others its warm/hot air.should the system really push air like this when it is not turned on?

Let's Roll is the winner....

If the air coming in is too warm for your liking, simply turn the system on, reset the temp to "Lo", then immediately turn it off. And do the opposite if the air is too cool.

Viola.

Well that really doesn't seam like the solution as I dont think this is the way climate control should work. If this is the way the system works then it would need to run all the time.

If you think of the manual a/c, you have a temp mix adjust, a fan speed, and a direction ****.
Imagine turning off the system by turning the fan speed to zero - but air flow will still bring some air into the car, heated to the temp mix and to whatever vents are selected.

The auto a/c is basically a computer adjusting those three ***** for you; and when "off" it simply stops blowing.

If you set recirculate then turn off, you will have no air flow - but you might suffocate
Or you can turn the setting to "LO" so there is no heat mixed in, then turn it off.
And you might want to manually select the vents before you turn it off.

Of course - if you don't drive too fast, you won't notice the forced air flow
But then you won't have much fun either.

The forced air flow is pretty high at a 90 to a buck

Yeah I think this is the best solution. My Old honda was the same way, I just didn't notice as much becasue it was a bigger car.. So manufacturs do it one way and some do it antoher.. just an idiosycracy to the mini.
