Hey gang,

I just picked up my MCS last Thursday. I have a few assorted questions:

- speed sensitive radio volume: does the Mini have it? While my MA and I were going through the car, I was playing with the radio while not really listening to her explain about the glove box or something. I think I made an adjustment that was "speed X" where X was an adjustable number 1-6 or so. The MA said that was for the SSRV. Now, I haven't been able to get back to that screen! I couldn't find this in the radio owner's manual. It's the stock radio. Any ideas?

- what's that sandwich sized thing on the roof, behind the dome light? I don't have a sunroof.

I'm really enjoying the car so far. 950 more miles of break in to go!

Thanks,

Eric

press and hold the music note button on the radio to get into the secondary functions like the speed sensitive volume adjustment. This adustment is only on the base radio, not the H/K.

The box thingie behind the dome light is a provision for the accessory alarm, if you choose to install/have it installed in the future.

Happy Motoring!
Cheers,
Ryan

the H/K doesn't have a speed sensitive volume adjustment?

I have not needed the speed sensitive volume adjustment with the H/K.

I JUST KEEP IT LOUD.

WHAT WAS THAT YOU SAID?

I CANNOT HEAR YOU.

Ryan,

Thanks for your answers. My MA told me directly, "I don't know anything about the radio" so no help there. I know where to come for answers!

One more question: how or when does the OBC average speed and mileage reset?

Thanks,

Eric

It does not reset automatically. You need to press the little button on the turnsignal and hold it for a second and then it resets itself.

Enjoy, I am.

no problem seat_boy!

yea, I know it's weird sounding, but the extra cost harman/kardon stereo lacks a feature of the base stereo Basically, the H/K speed sensitive volume is good enough where you don't need to adjust it. Initially I was freaked out to hear my radio tweak volume according to road noise, but now I get it, and it's all good.

Glad to see MINI is still scraping the bottom of the barrel for its MAs... God forbid these people actually spend some time learning about the car.

When I bought my Mini, Christian, my MA at Crevier Mini, sat in the car with me for about 45 minutes just showing me everything. He rocks!

ok, i'm confused. you say the H/K lacks a feature of the base stereo, and then go on to talk about the H/K speed sensitive volume. so does it have this feature or not?

I just checked the MINI sales brochure and it states that the H/K audio system has vehicle-speed-sensitive equalization. I think that means volume. It's not the owners manual, but its very thick with cool pictures and descriptions of all options. I got it from the MINI dealer in San Antonio Texas last October. I thought it was for 2004, but it says 2003 on it. I had the prior year's brochure and I recall it said this too. I just got my MINI on 30 Oct 03 with the H/K stereo and have thought it was speed sensitive, as I don't need to adjust the volume on it. I recommend H/K highly mostly for that reason, plus it's a good stereo.

The difference is that with the non-HK head unit, you can change the DEGREE to which the radio corrects volume for speed. I've got mine set to "don't touch that dial - I'LL adjust my own damn volume if I need to, thank you very much!"

oops, my bad for the confusion! Yes, both stereo's have the feature, however with the H/K it's not adjustable.

ok, thanks for the clarification. i thought i read that the HK had it, but wasn't sure. it's a feature i'm looking forward to using, so i would have been peeved if the stereo upgrade we ordered didn't have it.
