Hi,
Happy Mini Cooper owner for almost a year. My wipers in front have been not acting accordingly to the setting. Sometimes they stop for no reason in mid cycle
and sometimes they go at whatever speed it wishes. Any quick fixes out there?

It sounds like you have the rain sensing feature. When you set your wipers to "intermittent", it will wipe at different speeds, or not at all depending on the amount of rain falling. It sounds normal.

hmmm. You sure? Is there a black box attatched to the windshield (behind your mirror)? I'm not doubting you, it just sounds exactly like the "sensing" feature...
If there is, set your wipers on intermittent, and pass your hand over the black box area outside.

This problem just started recently. Before, the wipers were working perfectly.

Sounds like you need a trip to the service dept.
My headlights are not leveling properly/consistently...

My service dept. is 40 miles away with usually heavy traffic. The thought of going
there for a non emergency doesn't sound very appealing. Now if the roads were
windy with out the bumper to bumper. Maybe

Except that he says that the wipers stop in mid-cycle. That's something the rain-sensing wipers don't do...

I've been browsing to see if anyone had the same problem and I see you do. My wipers started doing the same thing at the beginning of winter time. They stop in the middle of the windshield on all settings. At the high setting it happens every 17 seconds. I have to reset them by turning them off then on again to get them to move. Needless to say it's quite annoying during a downpour. My rear wiper does even more weird things. Sometimes it wipes but most of the time it doesn't do anything. Everything worked fine until sometime in November/December. I have about 25kmiles now. Cooper S 2003.

Yes, gremlins abound. Sometimes my wipers turn on mysteriously when I start the car. One night my sunroof and windows opened while the car sat unattended.

I think the MINI's electrical system is more complex than it needs to be -- shades of iDrive...

I posted about this very thing a couple weeks ago....

My wipers do the same thing (and I'm 100% positive that I don't have the rain-sensing wipers, Bisch
