2nd introduction with photos

Hey Everyone. I posted last week that I was looking for my Mini. Well I picked her up today. Here she is in all her stock glory. That won't last long though....

How about some photographic hints for us? Your paint looks shiny in some, but muted in others. Is the trunk paint that bad or did you use some kind of camera wizardry on it?

I was using a circular polarize filter on the end of my lens (Canon 70-200 2.8L IS) It's used to get rid of the glare on the glass, but it has a cool efect on the paint too. I had just waxed the car to it was nice and shiny (P21S).

As for tips, try and keep the background as clean as possible. I didn't have time to drive out anywhere, so these are just in front of my house. The golden hours are usually just before sunset or just before sunrise. That's when the lighting is best. Look for angles that you normally don't see. Get low or get high and shoot up/down on the car. I shoot in Aperture priority usually as low as possible 1.4-2.8.

This is a good example of the filter in use. There is no glare on the front windshield because the filter is spun around to reduce the glare in that location, but not on the side windows. The paint looks muted because the filter is removing the glare and you're left with just a dark blue color of the paint.

Hope that helps.

Polarizing filters can give some very interesting results, give them a try.
