Two Random Questions

Need help identifying a couple of items on my '02 Cooper.

First, this round thing on the top of the dash...

Second, there's a piece of black plastic that extends the whole width of the car below the front bumper. Mine is torn, so I'd like to replace it, but I can't find it in the RealOEM diagrams. Can one of you help with a part number. Thanks.

The round thing is the receiver for the keyless entry I believe. I'm not sure about the black piece. Maybe a picture would help.

The round thing is actually where the temperature sensor is for the automatic climate control. And I think you are referring to the scuff guard on the bottom. As far as part number, I have no idea. I'd just call a MINI dealership and get the number from them.

That button deal on top of the dash is the sensor for the auto climate control.

Sorry I can't help the second question.

I was told once the black thingy is the automatic temperature control sensor....something to do with sensing the amount of sunlight or something....Might be wrong.

The Lip under the car is here I think

If you have your a/c set on auto, I think you can change it's output by blocking that sun sensor. Like, make your MINI think it is cloudy out, thus lowering the intensity of the a/c. When that sensor sees the sun, it makes the a/c try to counter the in-car green house effect.

As for the scuff air dam thing, it doesn't matter if it is split. I'm not even sure if it is an air dam or if it is just an early warning for hitting your lower bumper on something. This part on my car has been split and cracked and scuffed for probably more than 5 years.

Agreed. It probably isn't noticeable to anyone except you. So just leave it.

...or take some of the roughness off by wet sanding with water and 220 grit paper.

That is if it bothers you that much or is really noticeable.

Is this the part you are looking for?

It helps with the aerodynamics of the vehicle, though running with it damaged may not be noticeable.

I always thought the dash thing was the sensor for the auto headlights and the auto climate control sensors were the two little inserts in the front of the A/C control panel.

Never looked at any diagrams to confirm this though.

I didn't have auto headlights but did have auto a/c and did have this 'button'

it is the temp sensor for the auto a/c
