i cleaned my UNI foam filter using the K&N cleaning kit...wrong?

thinking that the cleaning kit for foam filters & K&N filters are the same, i used the K&N cleaning kit on my UNI filter 2 days ago and so far i've done about 150kms since the cleaning. i followed the instructions on the K&N cleaning kit (yes, including oiling the filter)

so should i be worried screwing up the MAF sensor or anything because i used the K&N cleaning kit on a foam filter?

Never use the K&N stuff on a foam filter. Get a foam cleaning kit and redo it. It won't really mess up the car unless you have over-oiled it (real common problem). But it will degrade the foam.

More in a sense that the degraded foam will let dirt and junk into the engine.

UNI filters and K&N use a different cleaner AND viscosity of oil. The K&N oil is thinner and can run thru the foam filter and cause damage. Also the K&N cleaner is basically a degreaser type fluid and can degrade the foam and make it fall apart.

ALTA_Jarid: what kind of fluid is the cleaner for foam filters then? FWIW, i only applied the cleaner & oil to the outer surface of the UNI filter so if any physical damage was done, i hope it will be only limited to the outer portion of the filter

Had tried them both, the UNI oil is thicker in viscosity and tackier (sticky) than K&N oil which makes it better in trapping dirt.
