Right High Beam on w/ car & switch off

With all light switches off and the car shut off, the Right High Beam flickers and comes on. It already drained the battery once. A mechanic friend of mine suggested it might be a sticking relay if Mini(s) are equipped with individual relays for R and L High Beam lamps. Could someone confirm or refute this? Where would this relay be located if it does exist? Has anyone else experienced this? I've unplugged the Right Headlamp for now.

The electrical diagrams do not show the headlights connected to relays. The headlights are powered directly by the general control module (computer), which is behind the panel in the passenger footwell.

I don't have any good ideas about this. How long after shut off does the light turn on? After it comes on, see if anything happens if you flick the high beams. Also try resetting the electronics by disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes.

Thanks for the tip.

The right high beam comes on at varying times after shutting off the car. Sometimes it flickers. When I operate the high beam lever both R and L illuminate. I tried to reset the computer, but didn't leave it disconnnected as long as 30 min. Will give that a try.

I don't have an issue with the high beam, but if I accidently hit the left turn signal getting out, the left side lights will come on solid (no blinking). It has drained my battery once.

You know it's supposed to do that right? You can hit the stalk either to the left or to the right, depending on which side you want the light outside of the car.

Well, that didn't work. The light came on solid again, then sort of flickered. It just wouldn't go off. I'm going to pull the bulb next.

Bulb removal

Okay, I'm stumped. Is there a thread on here that describes how to remove the Halogen High Beam Bulb? I have an exploded diagram of the Headlight, but it's not detailed enough. There appears to be a retaining ring that keeps the bulb in place, but when I pull on it, it won't budge, and I'm afraid I might break it. Any tips?

What year Cooper do you have? Do you have an '05-'06? If so, that's H7, you literally just pull it out, it will come. Just pull straight back. If you have an '02 to '04, they use H9 for the highbeam, and that is a plug at a right angle.
