Running Lights are Stupid

Hi, I have a 2006 Cooper. It has the dim running lights that are always on when the car is. I don't like them. How do you disconnect just the running lights?

Thanks

When my MA went over my programming options when the car arrived that was one of the first thing I requested off. I know enough to run them on certain roads and situations but I do not like having my lights on all of the time.

Oh *daytime* running lights. I thought you meant running lights like the 'big rigs' have across the top of their roof and down the side of the trailer.

DRLs aren't a bad idea. Gives the idiots out there one more chance to see you coming! (edit) and some insurance companies give a discount if you have 'em.

It will cost an hour's labor rate. I had mine turned off months ago to eliminate an electrical hum in my new sound system.

If you need to have the DRLs off for a short time try this: put the hand brake on 2 clicks so the inside light is on; the DRLs should turn off. At 2 clicks a properly adjusted hand brake will not be engaged. This is handy when you drive through those Christmas light shows.

Huh? We usually go look at Christmas lights at night, and we usually have the headlights on at night.

Thank god the previous owner had them turned off because I hate seeing cars with their running lights on during the day it looks so stupid unless they are bright hids

It's a safety feature and you can get discounts with some insurance companies. Don't see why anybody would want to turn them off.

What if you have to sneak up on something.... Running lights would blow it! If I want to be safe, then I can just turn on the lights.

There's a whole debate on pros and cons of daytime running lights. The worst are those Chrysler products that have their high beams for DRLs. They aren't even a lower wattage, just full on highbeam. Incredibly stupid, you can't use flash to pass in the day time any more - and when it gets to dusk you are blinding everyone until either a) your lights automatically come on (if you have that feature) or b) you turn your lights on.
