How much life left in my '06 MCS?

I just bought an '06 MCS with 53,500 miles on it. I bought it from a dealer, it is certified and has an extended warranty. It is in excellent condition. Can I realistically expect to commute 400 miles a week, or did I make a mistake? Thanks.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say yes! I just purchased an 05' MCS which I drive up and down the DC - Baltimore corridor everyday. It's running as strong as the day I bought it with 48,000 miles on it. Enjoy your new toy and stop worrying.

Your cars are puppies!

My 02 MCS has over 100k miles on it, track days and tons of hard driving. Long commutes are the softest miles possible on cars.

You've got tons of miles left in the cars....

I have over 100,000 miles on my MCS and the only repair I absolutely had to do was replace the radiator fan. Other than that I only had to do normal maint. oil changes, brake jobs, belt replacement, etc.
It still run perfect.

Thanks so much for the encouraging words. I totaled my Toyota Corolla, and couldn't bear another Japanese car. I've always wanted a Mini--and although I would have preferred a 2009 JCW, my Mini is pretty much exactly what I hoped to find. Thanks again.

Ah, you're fine. My commute for the first few years (ok 4) of my 03's life was ~ 1,100 a week. Now I'm ride sharing I'm at about 500 a week. Its still going strong w/ just over 204,000 miles on the clock.

Sweet! And i thought my wife's Subaru was a tank! :-) (it's a 2003, has 196,000mi on it last time i looked at the odometer.)

i don't really expect modern BMWs to be long lived so i'll be most happy to reach 150k on my Mini. besides i usually kill my cars well before that... ;-)

For longevity probably the best thing you can do is observe a lower oil change interval than the factory recommended 15,000 (!!!)

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I hear this alot. Why do people think MINIs are so fragile?

I picked up my car 10/2002 - it's about to hit 140K miles over the almost 7 years I've had it. I have no plans to retire the car - although, the Volvo C30 is calling my name. And then there's that Fiat 500 coming here in a couple years...

But other than lusting for a new car, there's nothing that prevents me from my 120-mile (round trip) commute in the MINI.

Relax and drive. If something breaks, fix it. And enjoy the car...

My commute is 500 miles a week, which I have been doing for 3 month now. I didn't notice any difference in the car's performance since I started on this new commute 3 months ago.
Since the coopers engine and manual getrag transmission have a reliable record I don't worry too much about reliability issues on major components.

That sounds like good advice. How often should I change the oil? 10,000 miles? 5,000 miles?

Possibly - but I've been following the OBC recommended interval approx every 15 - 22k. We'll see how long it goes!

I go about 200 miles/wk, and I have about 77000 on the car (04 MCS). I plan to take it over 150 K if it doesn't get stolen or totaled first.

Hope you get a BUNCH more!!
