Just placed the order and at the last minute switched to the 17 in wheels (had already done the DCS and zenon) . Had read the boards and thought the 16s were the way to go but drove one with the sports package and did not find the ride rough (but I drive a Boxster now so used to feeling the road)
Should I try to switch back? Is anyone happy with their 17s and what, if any, is the benefit over the 16s?

Merbel, I've got the 17's and I'm really happy with them. But then again, I'm used to driving an M3 which probably rides very much like your Boxster.

I'd say stick with what you ordered and after you get the car, if the 17's REALLY bother you that much (which I doubt) you can always look around on MCO or MINI2. There always seem to be people looking to sell sets of wheels that they decided to take off their car in favor of something "better". Or you could buy a new set from the dealership (if you enjoy being ripped off) or Tire Rack.

my understanding was that weight was the main reason to go with the 16" x-litesover the 17" s-lites, taking the edge off the ride was a secondary benefit. i could be wrong, though.

Our other two vehicles are an Explorer and a Taurus wagon. I got the 17s on my MCS and I love them. We took the MCS on a 1400 mile interstate trip last weekend with two 70lb dogs in addition to me and my wife and the car was amazingly comfortable. Stick with the 17s!

Thanks to all for your input. This board has been so helpful in working through this process. Looking forward to Mini-ing in December!

I switched my order to the 16s and I have not regretted it. But overall I agree w/ Jerseygirl...you can always replace them later if you think you made a mistake.

Probably the most telling thing to me -- about the wheel question or just Mini owners or both -- is Fryedaniel's post. In addition to their MCS they own an Explorer and a Taurus wagon. Yet, they choose the MCS to take a 1400 mile trip along with two 70 lb. dogs. Now there are some people who really love their Mini!

I like the drive of the 17" wheels! I do not notice any problem, and I wonder ido heavier wheels translate to better grip in wet conditions?
