Tire pressure warning light issue

The yellow tire pressure warning light has illuminated and will not turn off. I have checked the tire pressure several times and all four run flats are exactly 38 PSI on my R53. I have tried to cycle the ignition switch and clear the light but without success. My shop manual has been no help. Problem started when I had the tires rotated last week. I know the tires are inflated properly, but the darn lamp being on just bugs the sh#t out of me. Guess it's my OCD acting up. Seriously, I would appreciate any input from the forum. My Cooper S is a 2005 with 35K miles.

Cheers,
Randy in Mesa AZ

Try the button next to your e-brake.

Yes, press and hold that button down by the hand brake until the offending light blinks, then drive in a straight line until it goes out - usually 20-30 yards for me.

Try a hard reset. Disconnect both battery cables. Leave off overnight if possible. Before reconnecting, touch both cables together. Reconnect.

The low pressure sensor actually compares the differences in rotation of the wheels. One thing that may change that rotation is low pressure, it would seem that other factors such as tire balance would also give the rires a different rotation.

When you rotated did you balance the tires? It may be well worth the consideration.

I know this is a somewhat older thread, and I'm glad the poster's issue was resolved, but my error light for LOW TIRE just went on on my little MINI. I checked the tire pressure, it was a little low, so I gave her some air, but the light is still on. I have a call into my dealer, since I'm paranoid, but I dunno.

Any suggestions otherwise? She just turned 6K when the light went on.

thanks

Well in a 1st generation MINI, you should make sure you check and adjust all tires, if they are not close to one another the light may not reset.

Secondly go through the rest procedure again, following the directions and give it a few minutes for the light to go out after you drive.

While the mechanism may differ in your MINI (measuring tire rotation vs actual pressure, I think) the concepts I listed should be the same.

Good luck.

Oh, thank you! All the tires were at the same tire pressure, a bit low, about 28, so I got'em back up to 33 psi.

Thank you the tips! I'll cross my fingers and eyes.
