Hi everyone,

what was the EPA window sticker fuel mileage rating on your 03 or earlier MCS?
All the info I found suggest it was 24/33.
I am looking at my window sticker from my 04 MCS, and it says 25/34.
I just want to confirm there actually was a change, and not my imagination.

hmmm check this out.
http://www.edmunds.com/new/2003/mini...denav..8.MINI*

I also looked at the MINI Nitty-Gritty 2002 brochure, and it says 24/33.

Maybe the change was before 2003 model year!? Anyone with a 02 MCS, can you confirm?

Yes for 2003 the mpg is 24/33 according to Edmunds.com

while at MINI2.com I found:
Urban (mpg, imperial - litres/100km): 24.8 - 11.4
Extra Urban (mpg, imperial - litres/100km): 41.5 - 6.8
Combined (mpg, imperial - litres/100km): 33.6 - 8.4

This translates to 24.8/33.6 which is close. Not sure what Extra Urban means- exclusively highway??
But if you look at the numbers and round up you get the 2004 numbers of 25/34 so don't be too smug about the slight higher numbers.

Real world my MCS gets a 26-28 combined (I got about 185 HP worth of Mods and rising).

Something has to be wrong with my MINI because I get nothing close to the EPA.

In fact my last tank I only got 12MPG! 152.6 miles and it took 12.636 gallons to fill up. The on board computer said my range on the full tank was 188 miles.

I've been driving conservatively, mostly with the Auto AC on and only city trips.

The prior three tanks only gave me 179 miles and at most 15.4MPG.
All with 91Octane gas, from different stations....????

Funny thing is that it doesn't feel like anything is running or sounding wrong.
Guess I have to take it to the dealer.

Yes, We have one MC with CVT in our area with problems and mpg of 15- needs to go to the dealer sometime soon.

You need to go to the dealer- tell them about your 15 mpg. That is a ECU computer problem.

Since we started talking about real life fuel mileage, I'll throw in my 2 cents.
My previous BMW has a rating of 20/28. In city, I could only achieve about 16-18 mpg. On the highway on the other hand, I once got 33 or 34 mpg. I think it all depends on the traffic conditions and the kind of roads/speeds you drive on. Driving in the city, I could easily only get 10-12 mpg at times, if I happen to hit a lot of red lights.

If you drive in the city, hit traffic lights every now and then, etc, it might be possible that you could only get 20 mpg. Have you taken it onto the highway, at say 65 mph, and calculated your mpg?

If you have determined that your poor mileage is not because of city driving, then take it to your dealer ASAP. You are paying for a lot more gas than you need to.

I do most all of my driving on twisty mountain roads with little traffic and I average just less than 24 mpg. I have only 8,300 miles on my March 2003 built MCS and it will be in need of tires soon. No complaints here, the car has been a blast to drive aggressively. I didn’t buy the MCS for economy transportation but for driving fun and it has delivered.
