R50/53 AAA EW & CVT...
AAA EW & CVT...
Hello all,
Fist let me warn that I am new here, so please excuse any faux pas! I have a 2003 MC which I purchased used (still paying for) and I am of course concerned about the CVT failing! I have been looking at the AAA extended warranty... I have seen quite a few posts on the subject but I have not seen any where the warranty was actually utilized? Has anyone had their CVT replaced through AAA and if so was it worth it, did they actually cover it, ect?? I love my MINI but waiting for the tranny to die is kinda sucking all the fun outta it!!
I'm hoping AAA will at least put my mind at ease so I can enjoy driving again!! Thanks for any help!

We also own a 2003 MCA. We bought it new. It has the CVT. So far we have had Zero problems with it after 6 years of ownership. The Mfgr of the CVT

Well that's comforting! I was planning on having it serviced soon; I see you're in NH, can I ask you where you have it done? Mini dealer (Mini of Peabody I would assume?) or outside shop? Unfortunately I did not buy mine from a Mini dealer (not that I didn't try), so I don't have any kind of service warranties or anything... thanks for replying btw, hope I'm not being a nuisance!
Hi, and welcome to NAM.
I know from personal experience that the techs at MINI of Peabody are top notch (especially Joel). One of the things that truly impressed me was the fact that MoP wants their customers to talk with the techs.
So, my suggestion is to book an appointment for a tranny service, and talk with the tech about things you can do to improve the longevity of your CVT.
Peace of mind is priceless.

Our Mini is out of warranty. I take it to 3D Auto Works in Hudson NH.
They only service BMW,S & Mini,s. Very Good work & reasonable Prices.

Oh wow, I just moved from Hudson... I know exactly where that is, I don't know how I've never seen the place before! That's so much easier then driving to Peabody, no offense to Mini of Peabody, but they are a huge hassle to get to! I'll definately check them out, thank so much! Thanks to both of you
Change the CVT oil every 25K miles as insurance. I had a 2002 MC CVT from new and kept it for nearly 6 years with no problems.
