Modding my MC

Now i have a few friends who are more into cars than me telling me not to mod my car because its Automatic and not manual.

They told me not to put a turbo, intake, exahst etc.. because it wont benefit me enough.

Is this true? Any one here have mods on their auto and are satisfied.

Also what can i put to get better acceleration i hate getting blown by 6cyl cars like my brothers nissan its pathetic to me lol

They may be right. Best thing might be getting to the track and learning to drive it well....that seems a big help to those who frequently compete (and win) in Coopers. Light wheels are a big help, too. If you have holeys that may be all you need.

Also there aren't really alot of power adders out for the MC just the MCS really. Minis aren't about straight line speed anyway. If you are looking to mod, look towards suspension.

I may sound retarded but what are holeys lol. So i shouldn't do anything to my car? i do plan on doing an exhaust for the mean sound but other than that what can give me more acceleration?

Hello Dimi, as a Just-A-Cooper owner I can tell you there are really no bolt on mods that will give you more HP. If there was you would still be limited by the Auto Tranny.

Some auto owners have found the TSW Damper helpful.

As Creeve says focus on the handling mods. A good place to start is better tires, then rear sway bar, set of springs and chamber plates which you can do and stay under $700.00. Then get to a driving school to find the new skills of your MINI and raise your own skill level. I've been to more then a few driving schools and always learn something new and or better.

They're the 7 hole 15" wheels that were on option for MCs. As well as being the best looking wheels, they were also the lightest ones supplied (see the wheel faq: http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?faq=faq_wheels_tyres ). There about as light as 15" wheels come even third party ones. Light wheels are good for handling.

I am in the same boat as you (MC/Auto). I am getting a CAI for sound and betterment of the engine. From what i read, it doesnt seem to give any extra HP, but im sure it doesnt hurt the engine if it has more breathing room.

Yep, that's what I did.... CAI and Cat-back exhaust. L O V E the sound.

Although, I must say, it did hurt my MPGs a bit at first. Not because the engine is less efficient. I was spending a lot more time in Sport Mode to hear that throaty burble sound.

a CAI is a Cold Air Intake. If you open your hood, its that black box in the front right. It just supplies your engine with air.

The best way someone put it to me is, "engines need to breathe. Whether you improve intake or exhaust or both, it will do it good."

I cant wait to get mine. The 5 that are always talked about are the aFe, DDM, K&M, ProMini and Alta. You can find lots of threads about all of them. I am getting the aFe. Fairly easy install from what i hear.

If we cant make our cars go as fast, we can at least make them look and sound cool!!

I've owned manuals most of my 31 years of driving. They are a lot of fun.

But sometimes life's circumstances make the choice for you. Me... arthritis in both of my knees. As for the OP, who knows ? Chances are, he has a valid reason for choosing an automatic.

Plus... the automatic transmissions are a lot better than they were even ten years ago. With sport and manual mode, they're pretty darn near as much fun as a manual.

I agree mostly suspension mods, CAI and exhaust.

Does the OP have a R50 CVT or a R56 Cooper auto?

+1000... There are a few people at my Uni with R53's, and I can out run them through the canyons with little trouble (no pun intended. If you don't get it, see sig...) since I've upgraded my suspension and know a bit about lines and proper driving technique. Again, see sig for info about suspension. Frankly, I can't imagine what coil overs would do for her when I switch and get some sticky tires...

i dont know if its an R50 or an R56 cooper. I wanted manual but Auto is more practical and my dad wont let me get manual...

Tiptronic is almost just as fun and in the mini everyone tells me it feels just like a manual without a clutch.

Yeah, I agree with this, my dad in fact got an auto Toyota Matrix. He says that he is on the cell phone too much to concentrate on shifting, but I say....Bluetooth.

I have driven many different kinds of manual shifting automatics, while its better than flat automatic, its just not the same as full Manual Trans. But I understand where you are coming from.

Back on topic. In my Cooper, I have K+N CAI, Magnaflow Exhaust, and all new ignition parts: distributor, wires, and iridium plugs. They do make a noticeable difference.
