Used my new OBII scan tool today
Picked up a scan tool on sale at canadian tire for $60 - 60%off. What a great buy, no more paying for the scan to find out what the Engine light means. Used it today on my brother in laws Pathfinder, checked and cleared the code (Evap of course). Worked like a charm. I highly suggest you pick one up if you are one of those people who just have to know what that light means when it comes on and hate to wait. One of my best purchases of the year!
Agreed, everyone needs an ODBII scan tool and as you see you don't have to spend a lot to get one.
If you want to scan codes and get real time data think about a ScanGuageII. A little more money but it give you the ability to see 4 items at once. It lets you see what is going on and I have seen them a low as $149 (which is what I paid).

I've been reading about these since I came across them in another thread yesterday. They look like a great tool that has many uses! I'll probably be picking one up in the near future!
They can read current MPG, though I'm not convinced how accurate it is. It can also read MPG for the current trip, which is what I've got mine set to. There's a lot of other things its can read out, including a whole bunch of trip information.
Also the SGII has a lot programable functions from boost to all of the trip info.

+ another for the scan gauge. I love having an exact reading of what my water temperature and intake temperature is. Even if it isnt exact it is what the ECU is seeing, so if I know what the ECU is seeing I can know what the car is thinking.
