Electrical FTP into CHAMP2?

FTP into CHAMP2?
Has anyone been able to successfully FTP into CHAMP2 on an R56? I'm trying to pull the 1B FSC file but I'm having absolutely zero luck.
I've tried:
- Going through the glovebox USB with a D-Link E100 adapter (no connection at all).
- Going through the center column USB with the same adapter. (I get a link but no IP is assigned. If I run a DHCP server, I get an IP address assigned to my laptop, but nothing requests an address from the DHCP service on my laptop.)
- Going through the OBDII port using an E-Sys cable (I can find an IP address for a unit who's MAC address corresponds to an Alpine unit (CHAMP2!), but nothing to FTP into. I've done a full port scan on the responding IP address, but nothing I can 'log in' to. The answering TCP ports are 135 (DCE Endpoint resolution (?)), 1000 (doesn't outright refuse a ping but doesn't respond to anything either), 5001 (same), 7331 (some kind of diagnostic output - I can see various data go flying by when I do anything with the head unit), and 50850 (responds with 'EL Server here, protocol version 1' and more of what looks to be diagnostic output).
I've tried to enable the glovebox USB port through Tool32 but no luck.
Ultimately my goal is to FTP into and grab the 1B FSC file. This file is... useful in performing Navigation Map updates.
Anyhow, any and all ideas are appreciated!!

I cannot imagine that the car is hosting an FTP server. Do you have evidence that BMW (or any other manufacturer) does this?
Is this the sort of thing you're trying to do: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e60...-2015-2-a.html. Vendor MiniNavPro on this forum is providing a similar service.

The above link is instructions for an E9x (which a R56 is electronically somewhat similar to) on how to access the FTP server on the CIC (Car Information Computer). The MINIs unit is CHAMP2 (not sure what the heck that stands for! ), but it accomplishes most of the same functions.
Now as to *why* MINI/BMW has an FTP server, I have no idea. Troubleshooting? Diagnostics? Upgrades? Dunno. But some have figured out how to get in there and retrieve items of interest (fairly safe) and to mess with internals (not recommended).

Alternatively though, you can pull your own '1B' file from your BMW or MINI. From there, by using a few other programs, you can generate your own FSC. You can also generate an FSC that would be valid through 2099 so you would *never* have to generate another FSC again!

Wondering if you could use a DCAN cable and NCSExpert to accomplish the same. CIC was the older nav headunit and was replaced with the CHAMP headunits with the LCI refresh for MY2011 (if memory serves correct). I have a feeling the process is quite different for CHAMP. What year MINI do you have?
EDIT: Actually, I may be backwards....I'm thinking of CCC... CIC is newer than CHAMP I think

In theory, you can use a D-CAN cable with NCSExpert and/or Tool32 to accomplish the same. But I'll be damned if I can't figure out how to do it. I've been trying off and on for months now with no luck. Supposedly, If I had an ICOM cable, this process would be easy(ier). I may ask the local indy service shops to see if they had a cable I could borrow for about two minutes...

@sb2002 I have spent too much time researching this to activate carplay on my 2019 MINI Countryman SE All4. My VIN # is WMZYU7C55K3F93429. It has a 6.5" touch screen without nav. I took a picture of the head unit and screen. Let me know what the best option is. Thanks!

@sb2002 HELP WITH CARPLAY/digital clister
HEY GUYS-
new here. But i hope i have finally found the place i need to be. Desperately want to add CarPlay to my 2018 f60 countryman. Touch screen…no no on it. Assuming i need new head unit because i also need one that has a “most port” so i can add digital cluster. I would need them both to come coded as i have no idea about that. I hear @sb2002 is the king. Please god someone help me end this headache haha. Thank you so very much.
