Posting in this form as it seemed the most appropriate.

I am interested in input on available OBDII software & dyno software in the marketplace. I have found many packages come onto the market for PDA's and am looking to see who has used any of the ones out there and what they think of them. Any really good ones or ones to stay away from.

I am actually more interested in a version that will work from a laptop with either a USB or serial cable, so if anyone know of such software please post the information.

Thanks in advance,
Charles

Look at http://scantool.net/ in the section http://scantool.net/forum/index.php?...y;threadid=475

I have the ELM-ISO scantool, and at $115 it's a steal.

We use Alex Peper's Car Code Software: about $60 I think at http://www.obd-2.com. Or better yet, contact Andy from Ross-Tech (www.ross-tech.com), he has his greazy fingers on the techno pulse.

i think i'll get that obd-2 interface at obd-2.com

Here is my plan:
I'll put in one of my laptops in the boot
Run a VGA cable to the glove box
Put in an $80 small lcd screen in the glove box
put in a really little keyboard with a built in touch pad in the glovebox

i'll also keep the air cond. on in the glove box so the key board always feels cool

Save your money. I just got the odb-2.com (Pepper) software and its great. You will drive into a ditch trying to watch the readings or graphs while you drive. The software logs lots of data so all you have to do is note the time of your runs, drive and graph the data when you get home. After a while you begin to feel like Andy.

This is great info. I am very interested in checking out this software as well. My question is... reading the codes. Does the software from OBD2.com give you an explanation of the codes? Im not much of a mechanic...... However I would love to hack the computer bits of my MCS. Ok, thank you for the info.

Sorry if this is a dumb question...can any of the code readers or software mentioned above reset the service interval indicator? That's all I'd really want to do.

No need for a scan tool to do that in the MINI:

OkThis is about the goofiest way to reset a sevice interval, I got this from my father in law who is a mechanic and got this off of a mechanics forum for me.

With the ignition key off press and hold the trip odometer reset button

Turn the key to the accessory position

Continue to hold the trip reset button for 5 seconds until "oil service" or "inspection" appears in the display

Release the trip reset button and then depress again for 5 seconds to change to the reset mode. RST will appear in the display, while the display is flashing press the button to reset the service interval. The new interval will display for 5 seconds.

Release the button and turn the key off.

Pat yourself on the back if works on the first try!
