New to MINI and Ticket already

Well what can i say. I got my mini cooper no more than 8 days ago and got my first speeding ticket today going 80 in a 45 in New Jersey and im a NY resident. Im basically screwed, although the officers handwriting looks as if he mad a mistake on my ticket because my license plate for "Ex" is RLE4918 and on the ticket it looks like the E would be a G or possibly a C and the 9 as if it was a 4 and he came back and asked me were i got my license plate from guessing it didnt look right to him. He also asked me wen he came back what up with the licens plate, were did i get it from something like that. To top it of his H looks like double l l's on my street addres i dont know if i can pass that and he didnt cross his t's my name looks like Dimilirs instead of Dimitris.

I was reading i can challange that and say if he makes so many mistakes on a ticket then how is it that he is 100% sure i was going 80 when he was just pacing me and not clocking.

GOTTA LOVE THE MINI

P.S I was doing 93!!!

If you get caught speeding. You deserve it. Especially at 93 MPH on 45. Pay it.

there is nothing to pay its a court appearance. I have to see a judge and the judge tells me if i get points how many if any how much i have to pay if i do. But why pay it wen i have more than 2 mistakes against the officer? I would rather fight and loose then just give up, no matter what if i fight and loose or if i give up i pay something but if i fight i have a chance of getting dismissed or lowered.

I never heard of a speeding ticket where the fine isn't on the ticket. Interesting. So what happens if you don't show up to see the judge/magistrate?

If i don't show up there will be a warrant for my arrest. If i fight it i can pray for a nice judge, i have a clean tittle no tickets points EVER and i can argue that if the officer made more than one mistake in numbers and letters then how is it that just by pace he was so sure of 80mph. And i was in another state i can say i was lost, wasent paying attention because i was lost. It all really depends on the judge.

Get a local lawyer and let him make the deal...it will save you the insurance points (higher premiums for 3 yrs) and your DL...chances are you will not beat the local cop, **** off the judge, and kiss your DL goodbye...if you walk for 3 months, you'll learn...speeding just ain't worth what you have to pay to do it

I second the 'get a lawyer' advice - very important to have a lawyer to negotiate the the points down.

You say that like you're proud of it.
You should get down on your knees and thank God you didn't hit anyone.

I think 25mph over limit you have to show up.The above is good advise pay it ,get a lawyer and slow down . Also take defensive driving to reduce points
and 10% reduction on insurance .I have a feeling you are going to need it .
Good luck

Almost certainly you risk a conviction for reckless driving; better get a lawyer.

I love speed as much as the next guy, and a MINI certainly will get up and go. but 93 in a 45, here in Virginia is considered reckless driving, I would get an lawyer. Arguing the crossing the T's and criticism of the officers handwriting is small and petty, and not really a MINI kind of thing to do
be a man and own up to your mistake.
There are many ways to get the MINI speed fix such as autocross.
Anyway Happy motoring!
By the way I myself have had a couple of speeding tickets since getting my MINI. I watch my speed and relish interstate clover leaf exits for fun.

You should try a track or auto x. Just because the officer may have bad hand writing does not give you a "get out of jail" free card. You blatantly broke the law, so deal with the consequences.

I understand wanting to get out of a ticket, but the mistakes on the ticket don't change you got caught speeding and are lucky to have been tagged at a lower speed than actual.

I have found it always seems to go better when I just face the music and move on.
Go to court and ask for driving school which will wipe the ticket off your record. Most judges will be happy you are honest and willing to move on.

wow...... you think because the officer has poor handwriting, the judge is going to let you go.....dream on, man......and consider yourself fortunate (1) you didn't kill someone while going 93 or (2) you weren't charged with reckless operation. Come on, man, be reasonable......slow down.

My 16 year old daughter got a speeding ticket a couple of months ago and has already seen the judge. She will take defensive driving this weekend and it will all be over. We had to pay over $100(administrative fees) and the offense will be on her driving record. See if defensive driving is an option. Also, don't do 80 in a 45. If you want to do 80, come out here to far West Texas where that is the posted speed limit.

By the looks of your typing, you have no room to complain about his hand writing.

????

I am curious, is everyone's issue the fact that the speed was 92 in a 45, which suggests the road was in a congested area, or is it with going 92 in general??

I am not looking to draw everyones ire and get crapped all over, but I have dropped the hammer on a few occasions to see what the MCS has in it. I do however, do it on the Interstate on straight aways with no other cars around. If I get caught I have nobody to blame but myself and will "man-up" and pay the consequences.

I bought the MCS because it had some "cajones" and like to air it out a bit every now and then under the right circumstances.

I think that I agree that this persons situation would not fall under what I call the "right circumstances".

You did the crime.. admitted it here.. so now ya gotta pay up.
If you think.. that the officers handwriting will exonerate you .. then might I suggest you go into court.. tell the judge you know for a fact the officer is wrong on the speed he put on the ticket... you even said.. you were moving 93.. that might get you off

Wow, you all are such good people! He should be punished for breaking the law, but thats not to say that we all have done 80+ in a 45 zone when no one was looking. .....and got away with it. We all should be ashamed of ourselves.

Actually, I don't blame myself......I blame BMW! Because of them building an amazing little car at an affordable price, we get pulled over. Yeah yeah....use that in court!

I would definitely fight in court.
After that, I would say you need to buy a V1!

Lighten up people, its a new car for him. The excitement of finally owning a Mini overwhelmed him.

In Maryland, particularly Howard County there are many many roads that would fall into a "non-congested" area that have the wonderful limit of 30mph. I'm no hypocrit and will tell you that Wensleydale will do them at twice that easily, but even then she isn't even breaking a sweat......those same type of roads in other states are usually 55 mph roads.

Now as for 93 in a 45, that is a bit much........

Funny thing.....Light Aircraft are safer to fly by the numbers than driving your car but then getting a Private Pilots license is far more difficult than a drivers license.....

More than likely... the officer intentionally "lowered" your actual speed so it wouldn't look AS bad in court, probably because he was in a good mood or something. Depending on where you're at, if you get a decent judge, you're probably only looking at traffic school and maybe some community service (since this is your first offense). Believe me I've had my fair share of tickets and I've done some stupid stuff, but I've also learned from it. 93 mph in a 45 is NOTHING to be proud of, and is definitely reckless driving. I would try to cut a deal with who ever is prosecuting. Usually, that ends up being the best in these situations.

THANKS MINIMAN and i do have a V1 he caught me on pace. And for all those not to rank on you or try o prove you wrong...

A. 5 lanes going one way which was my way
B. NO CARS PERIOD it was 2am on the GWbridge
C. I wasent from the area my local speed limit was 60 so i had no idea 45
D. The cop was hiding behind an 18 weeler

It was retarded but like someone said everyone wanted to test their mini, and i thought i would at 2 in the morning wen not one passanger car was within 2 to 3 miles of me.

And i did get out of a ticket because of an officers handwriting before. Judges do look for a lot of mistakes that cops make sometimes, all judges arent mean a lot of times they are on your side.

MALAKA

One last thing he didn't write me at 93 because i was paying attention and saw him speeding up so slowed down before he got to my speed. Therefore a lower number which def saved me from jail time. Atleast i had one supporter here =\

They're partially safer to fly BECAUSE they're more difficult to get than a drivers license. Pilots are actually trained well and know what they're doing. Too many people in the US think driving is a right and now a privilege and simply are handed their license without actually knowing how to drive.

93 or even 80 in a 45 is way too much. I'm not one known for the ability to maintain the speed limit, but there's limits to breaking the limits!
