R50/53 Impact gun for tight places?
Impact gun for tight places?
I have run into situations where I cannot muscle off a bolt, such as a brake bolt located on the inside, with not a lot of room. I even used a breaker bar. (I am doing a brake job on a G35) I have heard some impact drivers(wrenches) are not worth it.
Anybody have one and would they recommend it? Its pretty tight behind the brakes and so I am thinking a cordless might be too bulky and I won't be able to get a hold on the bolt with the impact.

I don't think you will find a tight-space impact wrench so you will need to create your own. What I do is to put a box end wrench or a ratchet with a six (6) point socket on the fastener and then whack it in the proper direction with a dead blow hammer. That has the same effect as an impact tool but at significantly less cost.
Wow... I've got a 20-some inch breaker bar that will get off almost any bolt that isn't rusted solid. I'd apply some Liquid Wrench, wait a while and then try again.
I've got a Husky brand impact wrench that came with my air compressor... not bad for a cheapie unit, but I try not to use it very much... I still like to be able to fee the bolt head snapping off rather than just have it pop off at the head of an impact wrench! :D

or just take your box wrench and hit it with a larger rubber mallet.
that's wat i usually do in real tight situations. wear safety glasses
just in case.
im going to get a milwaukee 18v cordless impact wrench pretty
soon. it's only got 2200in/lbs (183ft/lb) should do the trick for
most work. even with that though, i doubt it can fit in those
really tight areas.

Yes I agree with the Milwaukee wrench, that's why I am hoping a electric will be small enough.
Use a regular wrench with the closed end on the nut, use the open end and put a big wrench into the opening of the other wrench, it'll look like a L. That should give u a crazy amount of torq, I use the method when working on vw, lexus and mercedies, also liquid wrench is amazing

Another low-tech solution. Use a long closed-end wrench and put pressure on it with your foot rather than your hand. If you can get an angle on it, it's amazing how much more torque you can apply using your legs rather than your arms.
