Shift **** Loose Help

I have a 06 s 6 speed and my shift **** has some play in it .I would like to fix it but before i do the shift **** pull i want to know if it goes back on the same way .Also if anyone else has had this problem have they come up with something of a fix? Tks .If you have pics of the fix that would be good.

The **** simply pops back on.

What kind of play are you having?
If it's vertical, the plastic tabs in the bottom of the **** may be either loose or broken.
If it's a twisting motion, the molded plastic key inside the **** must be broken.

I think I would try shimming the slot in the top of the shift lever with some thin material.
That would give a tighter fit between the slot and the plastic key.

My **** is the same way. I bought some cheap "hockey stick tape" not sure what it's really called but it's the rough vinyl type tape you wrap a hockey stick with...got some in black and wrapped like one or two times around the shaft and it's "snug as a bug in a rug" now :-)
