R50/53 Colorado RMCB5 Track Day at SCR Pics (56K warning)
MCO/Mini5280 members joined RMCB5 (Rocky Mountain Club B5) for their first annual track day event. This was a private session at Second Creek Raceway in Colorado. The track was reserved by RMCB5 and other local clubs were invited. The wonderful thing...there were more Minis there than any other single type of car. I believe we had 7 Minis there, 6 MCS and me, one MC. Brad, Randy, Grant and his wife, Richard, Me, Mark, and Ray were all there. I did not get pictures of everyone, but got some great shots during the day.
Our fearless tech info man, Randy Webb of Webb Motorsports was pulling track times of 1'21" in his awesome MCS. The Passats and Audi A4s and S4s were running 1"27". All good times. I let Randy hop in my car, a base model MC IB/W with S-lytes...and he ran a 1'31" with me in it. I learned a lot about line and control from him...so then I went back out and tried again...I improved my times from 1"35" to 1"33". 2 seconds can be a lot of time.
We all had an awesome time...and I for one can not wait until next year. Thanks for looking and have a good one, hope to see some of you out at the Colorado Conclave this coming weekend...Drive on Saturday, show on Sunday.
Gotta love the MC...that car is WICKED fast

Jon, thanks for the write-up and photos. Carol and I had a great time, it sure was a fun day. I really enjoyed flogging the MCS around the track, and following the more experienced drivers around.
A big thank you to all who organised this, and to the VW guys for inviting the mini's.

Jon,
Sweet pics and 1 heck of a good time. I left yesterday morning at 6:00 a.m. to drive to the track and pulled back in to my driveway at 10:15 p.m. That is one long day of having to much fun. Thanks to everyone for the good time. I learned a ton. Make sure you thank everyone at RMCB5 for the track time.
Brad
P.S. Ray has the CR/CR with the silver stripes.

What a great day! This is why I live in Colorado. We enjoyed a high of 82F, with the morning temps in the 60s, blue skies, and an open track.
I want to thank everyone who let me try out there car for testing purposes. The Kumhos are pretty amazing on Grant's car. Richard was also out and we did some testing with the new NO2 system and larger air-air vs. water-air intercoolers.
What was fun was switching direction at lunch. We basically had four hours of track time on one track, and then four hours on a different track all together, without having to drive anywhere else!
I'll get some pics up later with some more impressions.

There was a lot of data taken during the day on times and intercooler temps, as well as tire temps. As soon as the battery is charged up, I'll upload the couple pics I have.
Fun fun fun!

Some more pics - before my camera's battery died

This is Ray's car around turn one. Very nice with the OZ wheels and factory option silver stripes he picked up in Europe.
I will be out at the track on Wednesday of this week to do some driver school stuff with a customer out from California if anyone else in the area would like to join us.

Looks like so much fun! One thing that I miss about living in colorado is going out to second creek on Wednesday afternoons. Best $60 a guy can spend!
I'll have to make a point of spending an afternoon there whenever I make a cross country road trip back to Colorado!
