The tails use 1156 and 1157 bulbs. The drop-in LED replacement bulbs currently available are dimmer than stock bulbs.

Yes there are, just that they are standard incandescent not LED.

For 1156 bulbs (reverse and turn lights), use #796 (35W halogen).
For 1157 bulbs (tail/brake), 30W halogen is available (don't know the designation, but like this).
Either of those are also available in 50W versions, but I wouldn't go that high (wiring or light housing not designed to handle it).

Cool, ill look into that when I get off.

I don't need the reverse though, as mine is in the bumper. So I need 2 1156's and 1 1157? The bottom bulb I believe is dual filament (spelling?) For the brake/tail light.

For your '04:
The reverse bulb is worth upgrading for a brighter reverse. The 1157 is the dual filament and you need one for each side. Then 1156's for the turn signals. The top bulb is the rear fog. If you do not have the rear fog option, the bulb won't do anything. You can also think about doing the mod that makes the fog operate as an extra brake light.

I'd deffinelty want to try that out..I'm at work now so when I get home ill look into this. Is there a write up on that mod?

So the top bulb is useless right now? The bulb is in there, but now that I think about it, they've never been used, so I don't think I have that option. How do I check if I do (I don't even know how to turn them on if I did... Is it that toggle that's missing that I don't have? Lol)

Anyways, thatd be cool to make another brake light on the top for more light.. And brighter bulbs.

I used the LED bulbs for my brake light mod. They are plenty bright enough, and they use much less current so there is no chance of overloading anything with the mod. They also look cool and come on a split-second sooner than the stock brake lights.

I agree, if you do the fog/brake light mod, it is a good idea to use an LED in the fog light to avoid overloading the circuit. It becomes even more important if you upgrade the 1157 (brake/tail) to higher wattage.

The litmus test for brightness is outdoors in the sunlight. Many drop-in LED bulbs are very dim in this situation. I would choose a tower style that primarily shines light into the reflector, like this: http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...id/0/SFV/32481

at $39 i wont be getting those..lol

so what do you suggest as far as normal bulbs, but get brighter than stock ones (for right now i most likely wont do the fog/brake mod, ill just get the brightest possible bulb for the lower brake light)

so the top bulbs can be left alone, just need 2 1157 Duals, and 2 1156 single, right?

also, the reverse light in my bumper above the exhaust is 1156 too right? what wattage should i go with on that?

what is the stock wattage of the bulbs?

I got my LED bulbs at AutoZone a couple of years ago. I'm pretty sure they were no more than half the $39 you are quoting. Where did you get that price?
