R50/53 parking assistant
Hi all,
Wondering who has ordered and used the parking assistant that beeps when backing up...and curious how it works for you. I have ordered my MCS with almost everything including this option.
Thanks,
JKD

I have the Park Distance Control on our BMW 530i and it is really great for getting in and out of tight parking spots, however, I question wether or not it is needed on a small car such as the MINI. Guess that's a personal choice.
It beeps intermittantly when something is within 5 feet, beeps more rapidly when approaching 2 feet and becomes a solid beep when you are within 12 inches. It is very accurate. With larger vehicles it also really helps to have it on the front bumper too.
Cheers!

i have ordered my CONAN with all options except this one since it is a shame to have it!!
1.First of all it is a extra money spending,
2.It shows i'm almost a idiot to all my friends. One of the smallest car on the road with a PDC???? I want people know that i know how to drive!!
3. it only works in revers, before i thought it works when anything get closer.Ex. stop for trafic.
4. it took long time for PDC to initial its setting!!! got no time for it! (be careful, not many people knows this!!)
5. if it is not initialed right, if might miss or give faulse alarm!!!! (even worst)
6. bumper looks funny! with round filled holes.
7. can't stop it from beeping(already mention).
8. many places sell cheap alternative products with many other functions if you think u really need one.
9. dose not detect certain size objects! you still gotta look out for yourself, so what is the purpose!!!
10. can't think of any, but want to make 10. there you go!!! I dont personally like it!! hahahhaaa
My little home work for my CONAN Project!!

Ya the MINI is fairly easy to park... but I like it... its a nifty little thing... I figured it only takes once to be careless or miss something thats short and u back into it... if the PDC warns u then it has already paied for itself... its $300 and a one time deal. what the heck i say go for it!

I don't really agree with the first one. I ean, com'mon guys! The car is 12 ft. long. How hard is it to see behind you?
Which reminds me of one of my all-time fav scenes in a movie. Woody Allen is walking down the street in Manhattan and sees someone trying to back in. He makes eye contact, says come on back, come on back and pow, the car hits the bumper of the car behind. He puts his hands up in the air and say OK!
All that said, point number 2 is very well taken. It's your car. In the scheme of things you are getting a $30-40k bimmer for $25, so spend and enjoy. And, you only live once. If you feel you want it, go for it. If you feel you need it, go for it because life is too short to have MINI sitting in a body shop waiting for repait.

Thanks all for your views... I really appreciate the feedback. This is a great forum and an infinite source of information by fellow mini owners and owners to be as in my case!
Bought my MCS off the lot fully loaded, so it came with the backup sensors. Can't say that i would have ordered it, but it's nice to have it on there. If nothing else i've got more goodies on mine than those that don't! I do find it helpful, as i really stink at parallel parking. And yes, i realize it's a small car, but i really STINK at parallel parking. I've got a garage and driveway so i don't get much practice at it, so it does help me when i do. If you want it, get it, who cares if it's more money!! If you don't want it and have something negative to say about it or those of us that do have it then try posting somewhere else.
