R50/53 Need help fixing scratch, which product to use. PLEASE HELP
I recently had an accident in a parking grage in Vancouver, BC. I am now in Seattle, and need to fix some scratches on my rear right bumper. They are slightly deep gouges and there is some yellow paint on my bumper as well. I was wondering if any of you knew of a good brand of filler putty to use, and if there is any place online to buy chili red touch up paint. Any response is greatly appreciated.
Thanks alot,

Here are my suggestions....also, could you post a picture of the damaged area?
I would try a little paste car wax to remove the yellow paint. Just rubbing the paint spot should remove the yellow. If necessary there is mild rubbing compound known as "clear coat rubbing compond". It's a little more abrasive than wax but nothing like regular rubbing compond. If the scratches aren't very deep this may also help them. If the scratches are too deep you will need to touch them up. You can go to any automotive paint store and they should be able to mix you a small bottle of Chile Red in a couple of minutes. The paint store in my small town can match just about anything using the paint numbers on the car. If all else fails they even have a device that "reads" the color and matches it. To apply the paint you can use a small brush.....but I have much better results spraying the paint on. At the paint store pick up a small pressurized can and bottle...I believe the brand is "Preval", anyway the paint store will know. Get some fine sandpaper and sand the spot until it's VERY smooth....after applying filler if necessary. I have fixed rust spots on my 69 Chevelle with excellent results. I think you will be impressed with the $5.00 product that turns your can or bottle of touch up paint into a sprayable product.
Just start off trying to buff out the damage and move up a step always doing the least amount required for the desired result...at least that works for me.
Good luck

let us know how it works for you. my MINI is scratch-free (knocking on wood) but i used langka on my previous vette and it worked like a charm. couldn't even tell there was work done on it.

>>How does this langka stuff work? can you use it even way after you applied touch up paint?
yes. you know how when touch up paint dries and the paint is raised from the car's original paint? well, langka dissolves that part of the paint and levels it with the original paint. you simply wrap the enclosed plastic card with an old t-shirt, apply the langka to the cloth and slowly rub down the touch up paint. it's actually best if you let the touch up paint cure for at least 48 hours before the langka application. you won't be able to tell where the touch up paint was applied afterwards--that is assuming your touch up paint is a match to the original color.

Pretty nasty looking boo-boo. The yellow should come of with a little rubbing and this will give you a better idea of just how much damage there is. You can make it look a lot less noticeable but it's might be hard to make it "go away". If those are dents I see that need filling I'd suggest talking to a body shop about fixing it. I'm not really sure about the fix because of the flexible nature of the bumper.
I recently had a huge plastic bumper off a 95 Intrepid prepped and painted at a body shop for $200....it looks new now, but there was no damage repair, just sanding and painting. Also, is that a crease I see at the back edge of the bumper, away from the main damage?
Sorry I can't help more, if I was there the two of us could screw it up so bad we'd remove any doubt about getting it professionally fixed.
