R50/53 OK, this naming your MINI thing is a bit much for this old g
>>I'll try not to refer to "Pepper" who's sitting on the dock in England by name except infrequently.
MINIs have alot of personality and in no time once you get your car the name will grow on you.
"Pepper" is a great choice. Got vanity plates yet? What are you waiting for?

I have been reading alot of the posts where people refer to their Minis by name. I have not gone to that step yet, but I know that my MCS is a HE and not a SHE so I need to find something appropriate. I have ordered plates which read "COOOOOP", and it is Yellow and I do live in Southern California so maybe that will become his name...y'know, I can still hear Chickie Baby calling out the Coop-a-loop when Michael Cooper soared to the rim to slam a pass from Magic. Do you think I should get purple pinstripes?
If the MINI were just some plain ol' commuter wagon, then I can see not naming it. Can anyone one of you honestly say that each time you look at your car, you don't see personality beaming from its bonnet?
That being said, I haven't named mine yet, as she won't be here until Oct., but I'm sure she will reveal her name to me on her own.

I was a longstanding member of the nameless car club, and barely tolerated my SO's habit of calling her Civic Jane
Then I got MINIed. Even before the car arrived it had a name, although it turned out to be the wrong one. Shadowfax, while cool, didn't fit at all, and when I picked up my MCS I knew, as if I had been told, that HIS name was Burnie!
My wife now has a suitably nameless Volvo wagon, and I have vanity plates and a major obsession on my hands!

>>Well I don't have a name for my car either, but man, I just want to give the car a BIG HUG every time I see it and drive it.
Okay then, I'm not the only one who feels this way afterall. You just can't help but smile and want to give your MINI a hug every once in a while. Junior's just so darn cute.

I always thought naming a car was silly.
But then, I never owned a car that had a personality.
HARMINI is her name. She's a classy little gal, but she isn't afraid of getting dirty or playing hard. She lives in the city and is used to getting lots of attention from everyone because she's so beautiful and unique.
All said, when we're deciding which vehicle to take, I never refer to her by name. It's "should we take the MINI?"
Cheers,
Kim

My MINI doesn't have a name either, although I've given the issue lots of thought. Problem is, I have found more reasons for not naming it than for...but that's just me. However, if by some quirk of fate a name jumps out at me, I'll be there!!!
The first car I ever named was my 89 Honda Civic hatchback. This was a fantastic car all white with a blue cloth interior, not even a tach tho. It exceeded every expectation. It was quick, bulletproof, handled great. We began calling it Hobbes for the British philosopher Thomas Hobbes who said that the state of life for man was "nasty, brutish and short." That about summed up the Honda. My friend had a 85 Supra. Not an 85 1/2 - an 85 with the old Celica Supra look. It was nasty and black and it's name was Darth. That was perfect.
I've never had great names after that. My black Civic Si was Junior but that never took. My Miata was called the Skateboard but that was more of a description.
For the Mini, I kicked around Mandrake for the Peter Sellers character in Dr. Strangelove. Thought about Bruce for his extended stay in New Jersey. But in the end I went back to Hobbes. The Civic was the spiritual heir of the Mini and this car does have the genealogy to deserve the name back.
Still in my mind Hobbes will always be the Civic. There might be a name change in the future. Is a name given a priori or a postiori?
