I have asked many, many ownwes about how their mini"s perform in snow and have received only one answer - "You may want to get bigger tires for snow."

Can any one give me a more detailed answer to what to expect? It will be sometime before it snows and I want a mini now! Should I get one and if so, should I just ride the bus when the white stuff falls?

I would buy a MINI, however I would not drive it in snow and ice if at all possible.

It's got front wheel drive and will do fine in snow but if you can take the bus on the bad days, I would.

I spent several years in in the midwest driving in snow and ice, and I did just fine, it was the other drivers that sometimes didn't do so well and you would sure hate to get you MINI hit from some driver who should have rode the bus and didn't.

Just my 2 cents worth.

This past winter in New York, we had a really nasty blizzard.
The ONLY other car on the road besides me was a snow plow.
The Mini rocks in the snow!!

The Aero Kit might qualify me as one of the snow plows though :smile:

 

What all-seasons do you recommend that will work excellent in snow?

I'm dying to go skiing. It's 102° outside right now.

They are forcasting snow in the Colorado high country for this weekend. I've been snowed on in my lifetime in every month except July.

 

I have 16" all-season tires that were just fine last winter. The DSC helps tremendously, keeping your nose straight ahead. For better traction on hills, turn the DSC off. I felt really secure and confident on snow-covered roads.

 

My '02 MINI with runflats was a bit scary in the snow and ice last year and I finally broke down and bought some Blizzak snow tires on steel wheels with covers. I've since sold my MINI - but still have the snows/wheels. If you are interested in them, let me know. They hardly have any miles on them at all.

I'm not ecstatic with the performance of the stock Goodyear Eagle RS-A Runflats last winter, but we had a lot of snow in the DC area:


If the Mini lives in the country, it's a good thing to have a cousin named KUB


When it snows, the bad guys put a lot of salt on the road!

 

 

 

Dude! I know what you mean! I made my deposit and my MINI is on order. I've worried about performance in nasty Ohio winters. I guess if all else fails, snow tires will have to do!
