Well, old fuzzy face is still chewing his nails down to the elbow waitin for our newby. I made the mistake of letting him go alone to our local retail testosterone shop (translation - auto parts store) and he came home with a couple of doozies.
) Oh, by the way, he hooks the horns up so that, if I just lightly tap it, only the regular stock horn goes off -- but if I really hit it-- those loud puppies start yelling!! That way, I can still give a friendly little beep if it's needed and not scare any kids or little old ladies. Oh well, wonder what other little quirks the mad genius will come up with between now and our much anticipated delivery day (production day is 9/19)

Horns cool. I know what you mean about funny reactions. I've installed air hornson most of my BMW motorcycles ... really gets those cages of all types to look and jump when need be.

But I gotta ask... A BACKUP ALARM ... it's the smallest car on the road... do you even think you'll get CLOSE to someone else when backing up???

I installed the horns too, and installed a fog lamp in the rear tow hook hole, which is flipped on with a switch (illegal, I know). No one's gonna mess with me...

but, the funny thing with the suv thing is that i drive an avalanche. So, my reasons are different. But the ava has air horns too...

Hey Kev, glad to see another biker here. We drive a goldwing and have the air horns on it too. We just got rid of our mini van of ten years The bike is a 1500cc and we have bets going as to how it will compare in size to the mini when they're side by side. Should be interesting!!

>>Hey Kev, glad to see another biker here. We drive a goldwing and have the air horns on it too. As for the back-up alarm -- it doesn't go off when ya get close to someone, --it makes that loud beep beep beep noise ya hear whenever the car is put into reverse. The bike is a 1500cc and we have bets going as to how it will compare in size to the mini when they're side by side. Should be interesting!!>>

I laugh at the fact that the Mini's motor is only SLIGHTLY larger than some of the motorcycle engines I've owned. ... ya know 1100cc, 1340cc stuff like that.

OUCH on the back-up alarm though, I think they're annoying as all crap. I once looked at a Dodge Truck that had one w/ a voice "WATCH OUT, THE VEHICLE IS BACKING UP, WATCH OUT, THE VEHICLE IS BACKING UP, WATCH OUT" Arghhhh, I'd have ripped that off in a heartbeat if I'd bought it.

Hey, does you're Goldwing have a backup alarm too?

I think the Mini ownership experience has a lot of similarities to being a biker. Ya know, the good natured comraderie (sp?), the motoring (riding) for no apparent reason, taking the long, curvey way cause it's more fun etc, looking for ANY excuse to get out and motor....

Well, Ride (Motor) Safe!

Kev

In the old days, I would say try JC Whitney Company for one. In my 1960 Rambler American Super I have an aaaooogaa horn. It's so cool.

if you find one...post so everyone can join in the fun!!

The horn and the reverse beep are an awsome idea, they should be very annoying but get the job done.
I'm a motorcyclist too, I ride an aprilia 1000sl (FALCO). I don't have an airhorn but I do have loud pipes.
I love my mini, I wish you great luck.

Yup Kev, the Wing has backup alarm too -- but we put good ole duct tape over the thing so it ain't annoyingly loud -- I hate that myself! Hhmmm --- seems like there's quite a few bikers that are wanna be miniers (sp??) Guess the fun of huggin the curves (road, not gals) runs thru our blood no matter what we drive. Luv the idea of horns that play "God save the Queen". Will have old FF dig out his jc whitney when he gets home from work. (darn afternoon shift - stinks!!) Mini owners always come up with original and fun ways to enjoy our cuties. Now, if I can just keep hubby from trying to take curves in the mini the same way he does on the bike -- on two wheels!
