R50/53 Can't Wait 4 November Club - Who's with me?
Well, I picked my LY/W S with checkered roof up Saturday and drove back from Va Beach (about 200- miles). The car looks and drives 10 times better than I imagined from the relatively short test drives. There was light rain about half the way back so the car is a little dirty already but I'll take care of that soon. It is hard keeping it under 4500 RPM, especially acclerating onto the freeway.
As far as the HK speed variable volume goes, I have seen plenty of reports here and at MINI2 about people saying it does not seem to work and my MA told me straight out when going over the car that on the H/K systems, it does not work.
I want to drive this car all the time. When we got home from picking it up, I just wanted to drive around but my wife had to remind me that our dogs had been alone all day and we needed to play with them so I just looked at it in the driveway every 30 minutes or so. It is hard to believe that it is actually here and I got very lucky with my wait being only 8 weeks after I placed the order.
I also can;t beleive how nice the leatherette seats are. Because I have 2 dogs that will ride in the car, I was afraid to get leather because of scratching and the reports of the seat issues on the net (man the lapis blue seats look good though!). I was back and forth between cloth and leatherette and with all the reports of how nice it was and the desire not to have to use duct tape as a lint roller to get all the dog hair out of lot seats, I got it. I will say that the leatherette on the sport seats looks much better than the standard Cooper seats I had seen at the dealer. Somehow, the way the seat bottom is broken up with the stiches makes a huge difference.
I'll have some pics later if I can get them hosted.
Also, I forgot to mention the sound. Even keeping it under 4500, the engine and exhaust sound is so wonderful!

thanks for the compliments everyone and congrats to all the other cool looking MINIs arriving to their homes
the CW4NC '03 RULES !!!
..yep, having spent 12 years in North Royalton, I know what you mean about yucky weather...though the past few days in Austin have been pretty messy, the wheels are antracite gray
First impressions...330 miles...it's about as close to a LightCycle out of Tron, that you can get!
- the JCW kit is worth every cent, but having to shift below 4500 and restrain from WOT is close to torture
- the H/K w/Sirius is fantastic, except when you play speed racer through the parking garage and lose the satellite
- the DSC is going to take some getting use to..it works great but when it shuts down engine throttle response, it's just something I'm not used to.
well time to go play with all the H/K presets.....

Just a quick update. No new car today. Houston got hammered with rain today and more is on the way. I called the dealer and they told me that my part had not come in. No big surprise there. They were in the process of moving cars as water was rising in their lot.
Just as well. The streets are a mess and my wife is stuck at the Med Center due to high water. It took her 45 minutes to get 1-1/2 blocks from her parking garage and she is holed up at the Holiday Inn to get some dinner and wait it out. I hope spoonleg is not out in this.
That 4x4 pickup I'm driving was looking pretty good this afternoon.
I'll try again tomorrow.

AMEN !! Great looking cars!
and LeeL - I have found I can find new errands to run each day!
Moby - I have just over the 1200 miles and I have no stumble or yo-yo at all. My car drives solid and smooth. I do think that yesterday it got really peppy, so perhaps the break in software has released the use of the full car to me now!! Either way, it's a dream to drive!!!

Hi spoonleg. I'm glad to hear that you survived such a harrowing journey. You are indeed a dedicated nurse! My wife made it home about 30 minutes ago. She is an endo nurse at St Luke's. We live near Memorial Park so it was not too bad once she got out of the med center. Stay dry and don't work too hard.
>>and Jet --
Spoonleg and Ryan -- I forgot to tell you how much I like your MINIs. That white sunroof looks great Spoonleg... very unique! Ryan, those tires kick ***!
Congrats to the rest of you in the club who are just picking up your MINIs. All the Indy Blues look awesome!! This was my second color choice! I'm looking forward to following everyone's progress with their MINIs. I currently have around 340 miles and everything is soooo sweet!

Congrats Cdconsor! Remember we want pictures.
Still have not heard from MA. Was told on Friday it would be a couple of days until Gary arrived. OL states we are still at VPC, but no EDD is noted. Hopefully we will be driving him this weekend. We have put all plans for this weekend on hold in anticipation.

AARGH! I am trying to post pictures of Number 7 which was picked up last week, but forgot what the protocol is on Mac OSX. So, when I can find the time, I will scrutinize the previous instructional posts. Anyway, it's been raining since I got him, and the indoor garage pic do not do him justice- especially since he is still in the dealer-applied crappy "prep" makeup.
Pics soon, then- I hope.
Number 7: BRG/W MC, 3 pkgs, panther 'rette, rain sensor, chrome inserts, and (soon) white driver's edge stripe.

I wnet to check the OL to see if they had shown me as delivered yet (they hadn't, they still have me at the VPC) and am I a complete idiot or did they ad a little video of cars at the VPC? I certainly had never noticed it before. It is on the tracking page for the VPC at the bottom of the paragraph about it.
Also, this car just wants to eat up the road. It is hard to describe but there is a such very different feel driving this thing that any other car I've had. I drove my soon to be sold Cherokee last night and felt like I was driving a snowplow, the steering was so much less responsive "why won't this thing turn!!".

Oh and btw, my first mod was the Whalen shift ****. If anyone was in debate about whether or not to get one - do it! It is IMHO totally worth it, really smooths things out and it is much much easier to find reverse.
Next on the list is the rear fogs with greatbear's diode mod....

Congrats Chuck on finally getting your MINI. I can't wait to see some pics! I am also thinking about getting the Whalen ****. Shifting into reverse is sort of annoying at times. Other than that its pretty smooth!
Ryan -- I have also ordered the AUX input and the parcel shelf. I am going to try to install them this weekend as well as some bonnet stripes. I just have to stop motoring long enough to do it!

Well I only have two pics from yesterday. I had this vision of taking delivery on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Instead I dropped off the truck, caught a cab and got the car during rush hour on Tuesday. Not exactly what I had in mind but after Monday's near flood it was time to get that car out of there. I'll post some daylight pics this weekend with the new wheels.
