Ouch! That sucks out loud.
Not sure of the cost, but you might want to try Randy Webb - I know he removed his sunroof from his race car. www.webbmotorsports.com
My Japanese friends here are convinced everyone in America has a gun and they have shootouts to settle disputes like the old west. Don't let the incident push you over the edge.

Them are fightin words!!! Draw!
Sorry to hear that about the MINI. There is a sunroof on Ebay but it is $$$. Most likely because of the custom roof graphic!
It's like a $2000 option isn't it? But that's paying for the motor, electronics, linkage, etc. Hopefully the linkage is ok and all you need is replacement glass. I hate vandals, hope their peckers shrivel and fall off!
There is a bit more than just a chance that the sunroof could have broken on it's own. If the car was not actually broken into, meaning it was not entered and no other damage seen, it could have just 'happened'. More than a few reports of self-breaking sunroofs have come through this site. It's a known problem.

huh, that's kinda funny cause my American friends think everyone in
Japan have swords and are ninja's by night.

Interesting... The glass wasn't scattered into the mini. it is just in a millions pieces, but still in its frame. I figured vandals/burglars saw me coming, but maybe something else is in play.

Self-destructing sun roofs????
I've heard it more often with the glass rear windows in the MINI convertible roofs, but it can happen with sunroofs as well.
When someone forcibly breaks a car window that doesn't have tinted film on it, it pretty much *always* throws pieces of "popcorn glass" all throughout the interior. If all of your glass is still in the frame, and there's not an obvious impact point, it sounds more like spontaneous breakage.
