to switch from a 2003 manual gearbox to a 2005+ gearbox?

I apologize if this is a stupid question, however after having driven a 2005 MCS, I really like the feel of it compared to my 2003 and wouldn't mind undertaking a switch when (if) it becomes affordable for me to do so.

If so, does anybody know what exactly I would be required to do? Would this require a re-programming, or is it simply a plug-n-play type deal? I was curious because when I was driving an S2000 that we used to have, I was always hearing about folks changing the gearing for better performance...

It has be done. I wouldn't go through the expense myself unless I had another good reason to take all that stuff apart.

 

You can get your 03 transmission swapped for an 05, get one with an LSD for an added bonus. Biggest headache would be the cost of the transmission and the labor. I am not sure if the ECU needs to be 'told' about the switch. The car would probably 'think' nothing of it.

 

I've done this swap for several customers already and even my own race car(it was the first). The case on the trans is the same for both cars. Everything will bolt up fine and go back together just like it came apart. Now there is one big negative. If you have Cruise control it will ONLY work in 3rd gear. The problem is the EMS2000 (ECU) sees the engine speed and the car speed and it doesn't match for what it's programmed and thinks there is something wrong so the cruise won't set. You won't have any other faults everything else will work fine.

 

Well good to hear.... Now the question is, does anybody have an idea as to what the cost would be? I seriously have not looked into it, it was just a little notion that passed through my mind this evening.

New 05/06 style transmission with LSD. I'll sell you one for $3600 shipped in the US via truck. Need either a loading dock or forklift.

 

I wish that I could afford that right now! Unfortunately this is something I will be saving up for, so it is a no go for now, I might check back with you once I get the cash together though...I'll see if you have it still. I've got a loading dock I can use and everything...
