I am reading a lot of threads where people are having problems with their cars. Its making me rethink wanting to get the Mini, I really want one, but I live 50 miles from the dealer and do not want to have to go back and forth to fix things. Especially if it will require leaving the car at the dealer, talk about a headache...

So, how many people have had no problems? At least I will be getting a 2003 since the wait is so long.

Kenny

Only four problem free Minis???? That's a little scary. If the Mini is proving to be that unreliable, I may have to get my deposit back and wait until BMW works out the bugs. I understand that there will be problems in any new car model, but only four responses to this thread???? There must be more glitch free Minis than that. Please, Mini owners, ease my mind and respond to this inquiry!

I have nearly 8000 miles (eight thousand) on my Mini and I'm experiencing only minor problems. The hatch "creaks" a little, there is a minor whistle noise from the A/C when it's in the non-recirc. mode, the analog speed indication might be 3 to 4 mph off and the CVT gets a little noisey above 70 mph but not real bad. Overall, I'm very please with the car. It's lot of fun. My Mini is a daily driver.

My car was one that had the "potential" shift linkage problem. I got it fixed before anything ever went wrong, so really didn't have a problem. Other than that, I've got 2300 trouble free miles so far. Everything on the car works exceptionally well.

Used as my daily driving car.
Great gas mileage too! I can go nearly 400 miles on a tank!

I've had my car since May Day and yes, it's had a couple of minor problems. The release latch on one-half of the back seat wasn't right and there was a tiny, nearly imperceptible dimple in the hood. Both were fixed cheerily and promptly. last week the hinge on the gas filler door came loose prmpting another tirp to the dealer. They fixed it and did the linkage/recall thing at the same time. Washed & vaccuumed the car, too. This is really minor stuff - not bad for a new-issue vehicle. But most important, the BMW-backed service has been excellent. They really want to maintain customer satisfaction and they really want to hear about any complaints, shortcomings or flaws, at least so far. ops:

I've had my S for over two months now and have 1200+ miles on it without a single problem. Any car you buy that's a new model is going to have problems sooner or later - that's just how it goes. If you're afraid of that, then wait a couple of years.

My only problem is the hatch latch needs to be replaced. They are doing under warranty. I have 8,000 miles other wise no problem. This is less than American cars would have.

I have 900 mi on my S and my only problem ( which may be me rather than the car) is that I think that the low beam head lights are aimed too low. This makes real the possibility of "overdriving your headlights"; that is not being able to stop within the space covered by the low beams. This would be most noticeable on dark, country roads The high beams seem to be set at what I would consider a good level for low beams. I verified this by driving home late last night with the high beams continously on. For over two hours no on coming car "flashed" me to indicate that my lights were too bright.

I had the dealer look at adjusting the aim of the lights but apparently the self-leveling feature of these lights precludes an easy adjustment as with the old sealed beam headlamps. He is checking with MINI usa.

Anyone else think this is a problem, or am I being too picky. I plan to compete in night rallys with this car and I would hate to hit a deer ( or anything else) in the road.

02 White over dark silver S. British flag roof decal and racing stripes coming.

We now have 4100 miles on our Cooper. We have the sport and premium package with the additional bumper chrome. (See member Minis). We have not had to return our car to Hank Aaron MINI for anything yet, although we do have a couple of minor squawks. The left body-side turn signal assembly literally popped out at highway speed and was dangling by its wiring. A little roadside engineering got it back in place and we will have the dealer address it at its 10,000 mile check. We also have the engine shudder when the car is not warmed up and the engine rpm is dropping to idle. The engine shudders then picks up to idle rpm again. It is my understanding that BMW is aware of this problem and a fix may be available. I would not consider the car to be troublesome and we have no regrets about our purchase at this point. Most of the difficulties appear to have been early production cars such as ours and have been worked out.

Get one and enjoy the ride!!

Joe

1,400 miles in a little over a month and no problems at all. Of course now I have probably jinxed the car! Really though, it is great and glitch free so far.

I have 1400+ trouble free miles on my car. I do agree though with clemmywally about the headlights being too low(Mine are the xenons also). I love mine so far and am glad I didn't get something else.
