Tire warning light...

A friend and I removed my tires this weekend and painted my calipers. (Looks fantactic by the way) and I now have the tire warning light on.

I contacted DTM and asked how this can be turned off as It has happened before. They told me to hold the button for 10 seconds with the key on, then turn the key off and release the button. It worked the last time whereas it is not working now...

What gives? Did I break something? How can I get this light to go off???

I hate to ask, but have you done the obvious and checked all 4 tires?

For tire pressure? I haven't, but How would it have changed? I didn't let any air out or in during the process...

Yes pressure check them - I've found the light to be very sensitive. The pressure must be the same and even a pound low/high can trigger it.

I've had a few instances of the light staying on and it has always been a case of one tire being off a bit. It may not be your problem but it is worth a check.

I'll check that as soon as I get a chance. Is there a preferrable tire pressure for this? I know it's on the tire, however is there a preferred amount?

The preferred tire pressure amount for all US cars is written on the driver's side door frame.

On my 05, after pressing the button you are supposed to drive for a short distance to allow the system to reset. Have you done that?

I bought my car from someone who works for BMW and he gave me three HUGE factory training manuals that the dealer techs learn from.

Anyway, it says basically to turn the key on (engine off) and hold the RDW button for longer than four seconds. The control unit will then go into a learn mode (initialization) an then a learn phase. This phase can last anywhere from 45 minutes to several hours depending on the driving style and number of data rejections.

you can have any tire pressure in the tires, this is not what sets the light off. it only detects drastic change in pressure by calculating how fast each tire rotates in relation to the others.. simply turn your key on. (do not start the engine) push the button and hold for 10 seconds...actually 4 seconds will work...but do ten just to be safe. This will reset system. take your mini for a short drive. the light should turn off at some point during your trip. If you spin your tires during your drive, you will only prolong the time before the light turns off.

This is a bingo!

After holding the button in 10 seconds the light may not go out until you have driven a few miles or the next time you start your MINI after the drive.

Where is "the button"?

I'm having the same problem with the Tire Warning Light staying on (blinking) constantly. The MC is new to me, and I hate to admit it, but I can't find "The (infamous) BUTTON" to use to reset it. There is not a dealer nearby to take it to, so until I figure out how to reset it, that light is blinking all the time and slowly driving me crazy. I need a detailed description of where to find that darned button. Please help by sending me an email with info. THANKS.:impatient

I think it is normal for this light to come on if you change a wheel....this happens every time I put my snow tires on/off,.....sometimes the light will come on right away but sometimes a day or two or three after the wheels were changed

Did you perhaps damage, move, or otherwise disturb one of the ABS sensors when you painted the calipers? These sensors are integral to the TPMS and, if one is reading wrongly, will throw a tire pressure warning light. Check the sensors/wiring to the wheel area as well... and you should be checking your tire pressure every month or so, it drops 1psi for every 10deg drop in outside temp...
