2004 MC Temp/Speed on tachometer

Do ALL 04 coopers are able to read the Speed on the tachometer? Mine right now shows the temp.. I think there is supposed to be a button on the same stick that has all the lights options, but I dont think mine has one that can't be right.. can it? also I noticed I don't have the rear power outlet, just a plastic round thing over where it should be... is mine a lower end 04 or something? I thought it was weird because it comes equipped with sunroof, alarm, cd changer, etc ... any thoughs on this? and maybe a reference of where this button to toggle between these two options is supposed to be? Ive examined the thing 360 and I dont think its there

Thanks in advance!! :-)

Button is on the top of the turn signal stalk. Small like a Tic-Tac. Push it and it will rotate through the options.

Not all of the MINIs came with the OBC option. If you don't have the little button on the top side of the turn signal stalk then you don't have the IBC, and what you see is what you get.

Sorry i'm a bit acronym impaired when it comes to cars (Computer acronyms thats a whole different story haha) OBC - on board computer? IBC is? It is weird though because the manual says that cars without the OBC can still switch between temp and speed...

I checked the option 1.4 in the menu... it says.. 4303 ... whats that week 43 of 03??

More than likely if you see a temp read out you have an OBC, you should be able to toogle all the different read outs by depressing the little button on top of your light switch. Did you pull the little plastic cover off the 12VDC outlet and see if there is what looks like a lighter plug in behind it? The cover is there to keep junk out that would possibly short out the plug. Get you VIN number to the dealer and they can pretty much tell you everything you want to know about your MINI.

I havent tried pulling the cover off... I just compared the picture with the 03 models and it seemed the same type of cover so I assumed it was not there, from what i've seen in pictures in other cars you can see the outlet sticking out. And I just cheked and there isnt a button on my lights :-( I am really puzzled by this.. i think my production date matches an 04, and car paper work says 04... im just wondering if I still got 03 production parts or something like that

I have an early model '04, like 09/03 production without OBC and I have the ability to toggle the display between outside temp and speed. It's just a button on the turn signal stalk.

I just noticed that my tachometer has only round "information" spaces.... while there are others that have a center square and the rest are all round... I am refering to the round things that light up on the tachometer to show information.... what is the diff. between the two?
